This morning I discovered that the brightness control key now increments the level by 4 (of 8) units. So, instead of 8 levels, I now just have the equivalent of dark, medium and full brightness. WTF ( Read more... )

Actually, you do have the right to complain, even if you did not donate $100. It's called bug reporting (even if it's on your blog), and it's a form of contribution, so consider yourself a Gnome (or Ubuntu, it depends on where the bug is) contributor

The sad part is that there have been bug reports about these issues since the beta releases but they were either inadequately verified or not closed. I upgraded my laptop a few months after the stable release came and those very things were found to still be broken ( ... )

The Mac doesn't "Just work". You need to tweak it a bit.

And you know the maintainers are reading. At least, the Metacity maintainers are.

I can tell you from first principles how to lock the screen on Super+I for metacity (in gconf), but I don't know how Ubuntu have set up the dialogues for it.
