This one's a short update text length wise, but still a decent chunk of gameplay. Time for...

Let's Play: Metroid Other M, Part 4!

When we last left off, we had just left Dr. Bergman alone to go hunt down and kill all of the metroids in Sector 0, along with the Mother Brain duplicate. On our way out of the sector, Samus was jumped yet again by an annoying recurring boss, and we finally managed to kill it off. It dropped the Seeker Missile for us - and since we've only seen one Seeker Missile Door so far, and it was right next to the metroid drained walrus-moose corpse, I'm guessing that's where we need to go next. That said, all of Sector 2 is wide open to me right now, so I'm going power up hunting. I'll spare you the details.

... so now that I'm done dicking around in Sector 2, it's time to get on with the plot. Going through the seeker missile door gets us to an entirely new section of Sector 2. Shortly into the first hallway... and the gravity flips on us. What the fuck? I mean sure, it's all artificial to begin with, all things considered, but it's still kind of strange to have it suddenly switch. In any case, we have to continue through the next part on the ceiling.

... and then after a while it switches from reverse gravity back to normal - except magnified so that Samus can barely jump off the ground. It's really rather annoying - and every step makes a loud thud on the ground. I have the feeling this sort of gravity would crush an unarmored person. Hell, Samus has to use her Grapple Beam to make it through what would be otherwise easy jumps. Finally we get to a suspicious looking glowing red gate... that only signifies the end of the enhanced gravity.

The next room is big, circular, and wide open - boss time, right? Not quite. Moving into the room doesn't trigger anything. Instead we have to climb up the sides - which includes Grapple Beam points above really easy wall kick shafts, making the grapple points pointless. Odd.

So we leave the room an- ... or rather, we try to leave the room, and then the boss pops out of the ceiling and cranks up the gravity - that would explain the Grapple Beam points. Anyone who's played Metroid Fusion might recognize this boss as Nightmare - the gravity shifting boss that gave Samus the Gravity Suit upgrade in that game. Shoot it until the gravity generator freezes, allowing us to Super Missile it in the face a bunch. Eventually it breaks free of the ice, meaning it's time to repeat. Finally his mask pops off and the gravity generator goes haywire, flinging him forcefully against several walls, and collapsing at the bottom of the room. Now we're free to leave.

As Samus runs through the next hallway, the engines start up. Shortly thereafter we get to the elevator to Sector 0, where MB and the metroids are supposed to be. The first few rooms are dark hallways that light up as you pass through. Then a room where we see something approaching Samus from above - it turns out to be a baby metroid. Reflecting on the results of the last time she saved one, Samus takes aim to kill it, but before she can, she's shot in the back and her suit fades out. Fortunately, right as the baby metroid is about to get its first kill, whoever shot Samus shoots down the baby metroid with an ice beam.

After Samus comes to, we see that the figure that shot both Samus and the metroid is none other than Adam - he shot Samus to stop her from going into Sector 0 proper. The thing is, apparently not only has the Galactic Federation been breeding metroids, but they've been breeding /cold-proof/ metroids, meaning Samus wouldn't fare very well at all against them. Then Samus asks him why his name is on the report signing off on this place - HQ had asked him for a report on using metroids as bioweapons, and he wrote a very detailed report saying "No, you dumbfucks, don't do it." While HQ listened, some other group of the GF got their hands on the report and twisted it to their own ends, resulting in this space station.

Adam then informs Samus that the space station is on an intercept course for Galactic Federation HQ, and that she needs to find the remaining survivor in the KG room and redirect the station off of its course. Meanwhile, he's going to go into Sector 0 and cause enough damage that the self-destruct of the sector goes off and ejects the sector - including all of the cold proof metroids and Mother Brain duplicate, ridding the universe of them for good. Again. Unfortunately, this means Adam is going to be inside the sector when it ejects... spelling death for himself as well. Samus objects and argues to let her go instead, that she can still stop the metroids - causing flashbacks to the scene with Adam's brother that we saw previously. Adam gives his heroic speech about how he's no galactic savior and how Samus still needs to stop Ridley, and then walks through the airlock, sealing Samus on the other side. "No objections, right Lady?" Samus gives her traditional thumbs down, and Adam leaves - at which point we see Sector 0 eject (without us having set foot in it ever).

Samus finishes recovering from the shot in the back from Adam, and collects herself, now more determined than ever to make sure Adam's sacrifice was not in vain. That said, as she's leaving through one of the passages back, the hallway is sucked out into space with the sector, and Samus is dragged off of the platform...

Item Attained: Gravity Suit
Protects Samus from more damage, and allows her to move normally in fluids and abnormal gravity.

With the Gravity Suit, she gets out of the collapsing hallway safely, just in the nick of time. Then back to the room where we fought Nightmare - only to see that he's not really dead. That's okay, his new tricks are not very exciting, and the Gravity Suit negates his super gravity. He gets blown to pieces this time, so we know he's dead. Besides, there's nothing for us to go back for in this direction. Back in the super gravity and reverse graivty sections, we can get through normally, making things much easier, and allowing access to a few things we couldn't get earlier.

Once we get back to the Main Elevator, we discover that the area is wide open to us. So what do I do? Why, ignore the plot and get all of the power-ups I possibly can, of course!

And with all the excess power ups cleared out of the Main Sector, Sector 2, and Sector 3, that concludes this part. Join me next time when I get on with the plot. Eventually. Probably. Maybe. Perhaps.
