I like that bit about not being friends. It strikes me as very real, although I've never really thought about it for some reason. They wouldn't have been best friends. Especially with the four years between them -- when you're a kid, that four years makes a big difference. And the usual sibling rivarlry, for Dad's affection and attention, and for each other's.

But something more, and less, than friends. Brothers.
It's only now, I think, that they're learning to really like one another, to become best friends.

I make them shiny together, because it's what makes me feel good. But it won't ever feel entirely true until I learn to incorporate the bad as well as the good...
