theidolhands asks:

1. Have you ever had to deal with a suck-up toward yourself, another co-worker, or a boss?

2. What butt kissing methods did they deploy? Anything especially nauseating?

3. And how did that ultimately go for them?

4. Don't you hate it when it seems no one notices or cares? Are they rlly so blind??

5. Ever do it yourself? Did it work?

Oh, memories!

Part time job at uni - working for a florist at a main hub train station. Most of the staff were students, but there was one lady who worked the stall and another who would come in on Fridays to turn the leftovers from Monday's delivery into bouquets that we could mark up LIKE WHOA. After a few years of being the only such employee, the owners decided to employ another who had greater availability and could make up customer orders on other days as well.

The perfect storm was when the owner and both ladies were in. They were both ladies Of A Certain Age, but they acted like toddlers.

"Mrs $Boss! Mrs $Boss! Is this okay?"
"Mrs $Boss! I finished $Customer's order!"

All the time.

The boss would roll her eyes when they weren't looking, and get out to have a migraine as soon as she could when they were both working. The rest of us left them to their pointless rivalry.

I forgot about the sport of competitive butt-kissing, and by people clearly in a high-stakes game of ego...you poor things; humans can manage to make even the simplest of things complicated. I mean, working for a flower shop sounds pleasant and straight-forward enough, but oooooh nooooo.

You have no idea. The "shop" was basically a lean-to against a building on the station concourse, so we froze in winter and melted in summer. The station in question is open parallel to the prevailing wind in the UK, so that didn't help either ( ... )
