Around 6 or 7 years ago, I worked in an office with a very relaxed dress code since we didn't see any customers - jeans and sweatshirts/t-shirts was the norm. At the time, these tank tops and dresses that basically looked like lingerie were very popular (check out the "slips" on the Victoria's Secret website, and you'll have an idea). One particular coworker showed up in ripped jeans and a "lingerie-style" tank top. The GM actually asked her not to wear it to work again ( ... )

Reading some of these....another set of memories. I was in the army for over eight years. Now...you would think the ARMY...I mean, uniforms and all that. Well....
Tailoring them so they are so tight you can barely breath in them. No..not just women, some men did as well.
Tilting your 'cover' just so...shades of WW1 flying aces.
I was a cook, we wore those silly paper hats. Most of my co workers would continue to wear the paper hats, even out of the mess hall. We were supposed to wear the proper 'cover' or hat. (then again, some would even wear their aprons...)
Insignia on jackets that was just wrong.
Rows of ribbons on uniforms that had not been awarded. (usually done off duty to 'impress' the ladies)
Most of my jobs have been of the jeans and tshirt variety. We are usually told to 'wear jeans that are proper' Yet, the guys come in with jeans that are ripped and 'barely there'

When I supervised other people, I used to get in trouble all the time for not enforcing the dress code. The dress code, incidentally, was implemented after one young female employee came to work every day in heels or platform shoes, barely there skirts and crop tops back in 1998. It was a recreational program where employees needed to be able to move freely and play active games with kids. It was an entire school year before anyone mentioned it to her and a new dress code was handed out ( ... )

The worst I remember is one of the teachers wearing leggings, a long jumper and ratty old shoes for her short shift day. Nothing was done because my workplace is kind of slack on that kind of stuff.

She's since smartened up but like a lot of my other female co-workers she wears above the knee skirts/dresses when the dress code says below the knee. Not exactly bad, but it does seem lazy. I get wanting to buy clothes that you like/wear but sometimes having a separate work and free time sets of clothes is the way to go.
