Yep! It was my first job out of college. This happened during winter. I slipped on some black ice outside the building. I took a very unflattering spill, landing on top of my left ankle. I had to fill out not one, but TWO incident reports: one for the company I worked for (E) and one for the company who owned the building we were located in (O). Turns out I had a hairline fracture in my ankle that required me to stay home for a week. For that week, I spent most of my time fielding calls from my E's HR department and O's HR department AND E's insurance people AND O's insurance people. Fun times, let me tell you.

I've had a similar incident as wind_shadow2008. I slipped on the ice in the parking lot at work and I hurt my right knee and ankle rather badly. Thankfully it was just a bad twist and was easily dealt with with physio therapy. Everyone at work was quite sympathetic, but the paperwork associated with the fall was a nightmare. Our department of Occupational Health and Safety want all their bases covered so they required three general forms and then a fourth from my GP (who is quite hard to get in to see). In the end the damage was minimal, all things considered, and I didn't need to miss any time at work. that would have required additional paperwork.

It's like some companies think that if they don't acknowledge an injury that it'll go away, but actually it adds the insult to the injury.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I got scar tissue on my foot and finally regained mobility after a year, but yours may be worse.

I injured my back at work just over 12 months ago. I was belted by a 90 something yr old woman on palliative care and she sat me on my arse. Everyone laughed when they hears what happened (hell I laughed as it happened it was just so dumb). I ended up on light duties and work cover for about a month afterwards and when I came back to work after my days off she'd actually died. A few co-workers have been injured over the years working in aged care, some have been from doing things they shouldn't, one was stabbed in the arm with a fork in the dining room by a resident, others have just been kind of freaky injuries that have just happened. Most places I've worked have been really good with trying to prevent injuries and looking after the people who have been injured at work.

Thank you for this comment and thank you for helping to take care of our elderly. I know it's not an easy job, but I find the topic very interesting.

Backs are tricky, they're frequently never the same once they're injured. Like you, I also would have laughed at myself. Did she shove you? Hit you with her purse??

My back is pretty much fine now. She was sitting on the commode and I was squatting in front of her attempting to convince her to put clothes on as ladies don't go to the dining room naked. She replied with "I'm no fucking lady you cunt". and shoved me. I fell backwards and I'm not sure how exactly I landed but yeah, it really really hurt. I then learnt not to squat directly in front of people.

I work in home care and got into a car accident between clients. My car was totalled but I still caught a lot of crap for not just going to my next patient later in the day (yeah I was in the ER instead). I spoke to three different people in the office about the accident and the owner of the company still called me and screamed at me when I filled out the incident report and decided to go on workmens comp (I had severely injured my shoulder due to the seatbelt). Yeah.... wasn't too sad when I left that place.

Messed up. I'm glad you're alive, car accidents are so frightening.

On the plus side, your icon is amazing.

It's interesting to think about the different WAYS a person can get hurt, like your job isn't in an office, so this was a scenario that I didn't even consider!
