IDK I JUST COULDN'T RESIST WHEN YOU WENT "WANNA THREAD?" sudokutorso February 6 2011, 19:13:50 UTC
The first sign that Kara was in town was the cat that wandered in while Terry patched himself up. His black fur was a little scruffy but he didn't seem to mind as he just sat and stared up at Terry until Kara walked in.

It had been a little while since she stopped by. The past two months had been spent moving around from place to place, never spending more than one day in a place before moving on. Her sudoku puzzles had been painted less those months as she just took some time for herself to think and breathe and be alone. Funny how the one thing she had dreaded the most ten-odd year ago had become something she craved after a while.

But there's only so much alone-time she can take before that need to check up on the people close to her started nagging at her again, clawing at her gut until she was worried and twisted up in so many knots that there wasn't anywhere she could go except to visit someone. And Terry was at the top of that list ( ... )

Terry was still good at reading people, so he knew that she worried, that she didn't like seeing this, that she didn't like seeing him like this. He tried to avoid getting hurt when she was around. He didn't like to see her worry. So, when the cat arrived, he'd sworn silently and tried to move faster, to downplay how bad things were. He'd managed a bit before she arrived.

"You just look for reasons to visit when I'm only half dressed, admit it," he'd said with a smile.

Her smile grew and she hummed, a sound that ten years ago would've been a laugh. "Yeah, I finally discovered the ability the 'Porter gave me. I'm psychic as to when you're going to be shirtless."

As she spoke, she moved towards him and sat next to him, staring at the burn with her worried eyes, tracing the air above it with her fingertips. A small sigh escaped her as she finished treating it for him and then lay her head on his shoulder.

"See, I knew it would kick in sooner or later."

He sighed then too, and rested his head against hers, his arm moving to wrap around her. The burn hurt, and so did the bruises that were still forming, and everything else, but Terry was used to dealing with pain by now, working through it, pretending it away.

It's a month and a half before she can bring herself to be in the same city with him again. She can't stay away, the wondering of how he's doing, if he's alive, it nags at her until she has to go and turn her hearing up so she can hear his voice and his heartbeat. She never really pays attention to the words he says, just listens to the way his voice sounds. It breaks her heart a little ( ... )

It's hard to hide from a Bat.

The first thing he does when he finds out that his stalker has some very familiar blonde hair and crystal blue eyes isn't to confront her. The first thing he does is move, to another city so quickly and quietly and easily and casually that she might not even notice he was gone until he stopped showing up. It wasn't running, precisely, but he had no desire for a confrontation, or to see her. It was all entirely cool and rational - things would get messy if she threw herself back into his life, or tried to. So he left twenty dollars ("Buy yourself some food or something") in her usual spot and had picked up and left. He tried to convince himself that it didn't hurt. But really, neither of them needed it.

She follows him to the next city and leaves his money in an envelope taped to his door with a note. "I don't want your money. I just want you to stay alive and well and I need to be able to see that with my own eyes." And it's the truth, plain and simple.

She stays further away this time, stalking him less and just listening more. There's no hiding where she is, though, and if he packs up and moves again, she planned on following him every time. The only time she would ever talk to him or be less than a hundred yards away from him was if he initiated things, but she wasn't about to just stop following him, either, aside from a few day trips to visit other people. It was kind of ironic, and horribly so, that this was what got her to stay in one place.

It was so much easier if she kept her distance. Harder, but easier. Or perhaps it didn't matter at all. As time went on it mattered less, just like most things these days.

All right, so she was there. So be it. He'd had stalkers before; as long as they were on the same side as him it didn't seem like a huge problem.

ALWAYS LATE. SOB... sudokutorso February 22 2011, 07:07:58 UTC
She's not sure what scares her the most, what she did after seeing him get shot down so brutally, or actually seeing him get shot down so brutally. Somewhere in her head, she's always known she was capable of doing just as much harm as she was good and this-

This made her think of that man ten odd years ago. The one she hit to hard and sent to the hospital.

She sighs and curls in on herself a little more in the uncomfortable chair sitting next to the bed in the trashy motel two towns over from where things went down. There's not much to do now except watch him and make sure he gets better.

He's been shot before.

He tries to hide all his scars from her, and maybe he manages to mostly succeed. Not always, maybe, but mostly. He hates reminding her of his mortality. But still.

He's been shot before.

It was in the shoulder this time, and another had grazed his ribcage, another had almost hit him in the throat. That was the problem with automatics. If you didn't dodge right, you were in trouble. And he hadn't been expecting such an outdated gun. Mistake.

He was very pale; he'd lost a lot of blood before Kara had managed to drag him out and get him over here, but he'd survive. It's what he did, survive. Having a nurse who had x-ray vision never hurt there.

And the stupid thing was that this shouldn't even have been dangerous.

The paleness was disturbing and for a moment she wondered if maybe she should have just flown him to the island, his personal comfort be damned, instead of just stealing a blood bag, saline and an IV drip from a nearby hospital. But it wasn't like she could move him now.

Her fingers twitched slightly where they gripped the hems of her jeans, wanting to brush away the hair from his forehead. Maybe it was just the contrast of his hair and everything else that made him seem so pale. Maybe, but it was incredibly unlikely.

A small sigh escaped her and she rested her chin on her knees, not even trying to stop the way her mind raced as she kept vigil.

She had knocked him out, but things like that didn't really last long with someone with his experience and training. Terry was good at waking up quickly. His first instinct when he did so was another something that had become natural, trained into him over the years. He was ready to attack.

It took him a second to realize where he was.

"Guess we made it, huh?"
