Saitou Hajime » Rurouni Kenshin » 2016 Version wolfuntamed August 30 2010, 01:24:26 UTC
[ Back alleys are oddly enough one of the safer places, in these times, and Saitou doesn't mind. He'd always hid in the shadows well enough, before. Though the dim light of a cigarette being lit is enough of a sign that someone was back there in the darkened street... somewhere. These days Saitou spoke even less than usual, and that was saying something. But it kept the enforcements off his trail and out of his hair.

Ignore the coughing that follows shortly, though. It's nothing to worry about. Honest. ]

[There's a little something else in the alleys tonight besides coughing old men and garbage. An old imPort brought in new not so long ago has found herself biting off way more than she can chew when she fought off (and sliced the heads off of) a few too many soldiers at the machine. She didn't get away scott-free: the gunshot wounds in her thigh are making a hasty getaway very hard.

She's lost them a bit in that maze of buildings, but they're not giving up chase: the sounds of formations being called echo as she hobbles to escape them. She lets out a yelp when her foot nicks something unseen on the ground and goes down hard, cussing and groaning.]

[ His powers haven't waned over the years he's been caged here. So the rushing sounds of footsteps, labored breathing and... yes someone was wounded he was pretty sure also, didn't go unnoticed.

It's not his problem, though. He'd learned by this amount of time that helping others just wasn't successful anymore. Just ended up with more people killed and another burden for him to bear. So yep Saitou's not going to move whatsoever and just stares down at her indifferently. ]

Goddammit! [she seethes, getting to her knees. her swords scrape against the concrete, still in hand from the moment she'd withdrawn them in the lab. it takes a minute for her to even notice there's someone nearby. she lifts her head, one eye flashing fury and suspicion right away.

he doesn't look like one of the goons...

said goons are starting to sound close. damn. she stabs a blade into the dumpster nearby and hoists herself up, teeth clenched, glaring back at the old guy.]

Get. Outta here, grandpa.

UH SOME STREET SOMEWHERE. A-AND NOW. IN 10 YEARS. fff idk battothefuture August 30 2010, 01:26:17 UTC
[Terry is buying a hotdog from a street vendor in his totes-not-an-import guise and using that as a way to case out the building in front of him. There's some records in there that he needs.

Funny, Batman never did this much breaking and entering at home, but different times call for different things. Or maybe it just feels like he never did this much of it. Maybe he did. It's hard to remember home some days. Depressing, but that's another thing you just have to live with.]

[Quite suddenly, Terry has company. It's blonde hair this time, oversized sunglasses, and a semi-permanent cup of coffee in hand. She stands next to him, sipping as if she's been there the whole time.]

I hear this stand uses stray dogs.

[He turns around and grins when he sees her, then kisses her quickly and lightly. But don't fool yourself, Carrie, he heard you coming. Not that he acts like it; normal people aren't trained for that sort of thing.]

Don't believe everything you hear.

It's good to see you, babe. I wasn't expecting you for another month; I thought you were out of town on business.

Oh, thanks.

[He handed the guy a few bucks and took the dog, which he really wasn't all that interested in, but... hey, it was a excuse.]

[She reacts almost not at all, as per usual, and takes another sip of the coffee when they've parted.]

I finished early.

[Her eyes flick for a second to the building he'd been not-watching, just long enough for him to catch.]

Got anything fun planned?

Shirosaki; Bleach; 2020 AKA DEAD! version holeheart August 30 2010, 01:34:01 UTC
[Shiro is looking a little older and more mature, with just past earlength hair... if you can see him. See, not many people pay attention to the dead. That suits him just fine. Were he alive, his white skin and white hair and white clothes would stick out like a sore thumb.

They already did once before. That ended well. It ended in a slow death in an empty cell, alone except for the voice of his partner in his head. The rest of their powers dampened, the soul chain only became useful for communication.

"I'm so tired. It's so cold in here."
"I know, just close your eyes, aibou. It's better this way. Are you scared?"
"... yeah."
"... so am I."For now, he's without his Soul Reaper companion; Ichigo is off doing his job, assisting spirits to the other side. Shiro can't do that. Or won't. Who knows ( ... )

[Ten years, and though his shikai form is an old man, in bankai he still has the childlike form of a fourteen year old boy. Save the eyes. Those, alone tell a different story.

It's funny what ten years ( not to mention death ) can do to you. Where once he had his own body, Zangetsu had quite happily returned to Ichigo's soul long ago. Long before his master died, in fact. It helped with the lonliness if at least on piece of the three part puzzle could stay with the whole.

But he hasn't lost the trick of holding his own form, separate from Ichigo if he chooses. And he uses it now. A little grander than a short kid in too much of a cloak, he's little more than a shade, now. The only substantial thing is his face, and hair, the rest a seething shapeless mantle of black, and crimson literally forming itself as if from a wane shadow that Shiro should, but doesn't cast on the ground. In truth, he's capable of taking form from either Ichigo, or Shiro's personal store of reiatsu. Being that he's something of a mix of the two, himself. ]

[Even Shiro had mellowed out. Dying did that. He'd been given a gift by the porter, something he didn't even realize until it'd been taken away from him by that damned government. After they'd opened their skulls and probed them and shocked them and cut them to pieces, trying to figure out what made them feel each other's pain.

They never figured it out.

Shiro, too, can return to Ichigo's soul, should he so desire. But most days, he prefers to walk outside. The feeling of the sun and the wind are dampened on his now completely spiritual body, but they're there.

But Shiro is thankful. In the few years he's been deceased (a proper Hollow. Hah.) he's discovered that the wide variety of emotion that his human form had bestowed upon him had not disappeared. He could still feel sadness, love, joy, grief... and when he felt a familiar shadow at his back, a bit of a warm contentment.]

Tch. Shouldn't you be helping Ichigo with his konsou instead of stalking me around town... Tensa Zangetsu? [for all he's been through, he still hasn't ( ... )

I can split my focus. He does not need your mask, nor my full strength to perform konsou.

[ But he uses bankai at the drop of a hat. Mostly for expedience sake, but even then it's not always necessary. ]

As much as you walk these streets, you may have walked to the moon, and back. Are you so bored?

[ And maybe it's amusement, or maybe it's for appearances, or maybe for some other reason that only makes sense to Tensa Zangetsu, alone, but he does take the trouble of giving himself more of a solidly formed "body"; a shadowy thing that's all suggestion. The suggestion of legs disturbing the cloudy-red mass of shadows, the suggestion of a gloved hand occasionally swishing back, and forth as though thoughtlessly keeping time with the movement of nonexistent feet. ]

2018/Warehouse B subbasement (Stark-funded resistance HQ)/JAIME REYES: 27yrs owwmyspine August 30 2010, 01:34:54 UTC
Jaime's days have been blending together for a long time, give or take the rare, rare instance he'd have to leave that secret basement to help in a mission or two, Scarab-style. His job was pretty much rooted to that room with Stark's swiped computer systems (tweaked to suit a little Reach tech, of course), guiding friends and allies out and about in the City on rescue and recon missions with his custom communication outlets (and hey, what satellites were being jacked that the government didn't know about didn't hurt much, either). Simple passwords had been passed along to old teammates and heroes trustworthy enough, and just punching it into their phone would ping Jaime at base to give them a secure channel for whatever they needed.

That was...pretty much it for him. Heaven knew how he'd managed to not mold right into that chair of his--well, maybe Abby knew, but most of the day while she was gone was him and those rows of screens ( ... )

There's an encrypted IM window at the bottom of the screen.

Need intel. Call 512-555-2143 on secure line.

Jaime catches the ping almost seconds before it appeared on the screen, swiveling his chair just as a small headset molds itself to fit around his ear. The numbers punched themselves in and all he had to do was wait for the line to pick up once his encryptions were put in place.

"Beetle here."

Rachel gave a slight sigh, she wasn't sure anyone had been home at the other end.

"Askani. I need three things. A friendly doctor in the Seattle area, someone who can make a set of passports good enough to get over the Canadian border with, and any satellite footage you might have of the Dallas area."

It was rare that she reached out to the more 'official' resistance outfits, but she was on a timetable and she was a bit cut-off from her usual information outlets.

[ooc: I have her 2020 bio on her journal if you'd like it.]
