Family politics

Nov 05, 2008 12:30

My traditionally Republican dad called me at 7:30 this morning to congratulate me on the Obama victory. I didn't answer the phone since it was 7:30 and that's really too early for me to converse with anyone, but he left a message congratulating me and saying he hopes Obama will be good for the country. It's nice to be on the winning side this ( Read more... )

That pairs nicely with the extremely gracious concession speech McCain himself made last night. Double win! Or, really, triple, I guess.

I actually missed McCain's concession speech. We were at the rally when it started, but we couldn't really hear, so we decided to leave so we would be able to hear Obama's speech more clearly. I got home in time for his speech. :-)

I'm going to have to find McCain's speech on youtube in a while, I guess.

That's a wonderful gesture from your dad. I lucked out with the family politics issue.

I phoned my dad (who supported Obama before I did) when CNN called it for Obama. He said he didn't believe me. So I called him again when McCain's concession speech started. He called me after that speech, and again after Obama's speech. Then he called again, just for no reason except to be happy with me. Mommy was asleep, so he was alone in the house with nobody to party with.

It was cool that we got to share that together, even if it was just over the phone.

That's so cool. By the time Obama's speech was done I didn't know who to call since all the people I would normally call in that situation went to bed early to get ready for their superearly morning jobs. (The only thing I don't like about having an afternoon work schedule is that everyone else goes to bed hours before me.)

Well, I have a superearly morning job, and even I stayed up. And I'm an early-to-bed girl, as you might know. Although, being on Central time, it wasn't as late for me as it would be for Eastern-timers.

I've been lurking around your LJ...hope you don't mind! I'm inspired by the photographed documentation of your life.

Yeah, there's no way *I* could've gotten to bed before it was done, but I think they figured that once Obama had the electoral votes and CNN called it for him it was safe to go to bed.

Also, of course I don't mind. Lurk away! :-)
