Crossing the streams: How to comment on other journal sites

Jul 25, 2007 12:30

With people going off in every direction, here is something you can do if you don't want to start piling up accounts on every lj clone out there: use OpenID. For example, I used my cmshaw livejournal account to leave these comments on my insanejournal account just now. I'm just doing this for test purposes -- I'll be using my cmshaw insanejournal ( Read more... )

Hello! I found this post through del.icio.us (query: insanejournal +"open id").
Thank you very much for the instructions! I was also wondering if I could post the instructions section in my own journal along with a link back here and acknowledgment? Or would you prefer that I just forwarded people here? Thanks!

Hello! :)

You're more than welcome to spread this information however you think it'll be useful. I may come back and update this entry again if I find out more, but I think it's pretty well sorted by this point.

The only change I'd ask if you repost this information elsewhere is that you remove the link to my insanejournal; I'd rather keep that link coming from my own livejournal only.

I'm glad this was helpful to you!

Thank you! Here's the post.

Also, I would be very interested in learning how to syndicate, though it would be from IJ to LJ; however, it seems most of this is applicable to both sides?

Will this work if you are banned or blocked from LJ though? I'm still not sure how that part of TOSsing users works. Do they just prevent you from starting a new journal with the same email? The same IP?

If you're banned from LJ, you won't have a [user].livejournal.com OpenID to use on other sites, but you should be able to log in to livejournal with an OpenID from another site; I say "should" because I don't know how the permanent banning works, exactly. (I'm pretty sure it does work on email and doesn't work on IP address.)

I'm curious to see if it does work I should ask one of the TOSsed people over at GJ to see if they can get this to work.

Thanks for this! I hope I don't have to abandon ship, but they aren't making it easy on us. Either way, it's nice to know that I can comment elsewhere without being obnoxiously anonymous.

Thanks for the info!

Note that GreatestJournal unfortunately does not support OpenID ( http://www.greatestjournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=207 ), nor notification (a real shame I think, as that seems to be one of the more popular LJ alternatives).

DeadJournal does support OpenID, but not notification.
