More Consumerism

Well, here we go again. I went out to the 2 local TRU's trying to find anything interesting in stock that I didn't pick up last time. Particularly, I wanted the Orange Box. Neither of them had it, or much of anything else I wanted immediately. I was bummed ( Read more... )

What is orange box of which everyone speaks?

Moose? Squirrel?

Am looking at 360's right now. Not sure if I want Halo version or Elite...both look nice (Halo version is quite distinctive, so I like it), both come with goodies, both do HDMI/1080P, the divider is that the Elite has the 120gb and the Halo one has extra content.

Just wish I knew what that content was...

What are the details on the new chipset? I know that I shouldn't be pulled for $50 by something that's mostly if not purely cosmetic, but the thing looks damn nice. That said, if there is a chipset difference, that's a possible selling point as well. With the reputation for flammability the 360 has, I must say having something that runs a bit cleaner is more than a little tempting.

I guess I'll just have to do my homework a bit more.

As far as the "Go Big" titles are concerned, to borrow a bit of your vernacular, "meh".

The new chipset has an IBM microprocessor and an AMD/ATI graphics chip that are both manufactured in a 65-nanometer production process. The original chipset was manufactured in a 90-nanometer process.

The smaller chipset both reduces the risk of overheating and lowers the production costs associated with the Xbox 360.

With the warranty, I'd just go Elite - it's more for your $. If it breaks, send it in. My Elite runs much better than my other one ever did.

The Orange Box rocks. I finished the first run through Portal last night, got some HL2 in, and then finished off with TF2. TF2 is a blast, and Portal is great.
