Windows hate

One of the many things I hate about Windows is the process management. When Trillian crashes (and it does, and I regret paying for that POS) and I try to end the process with the Windows Task Manager, NOTHING HAPPENS. Even programs which Windows recognizes as crashed ("This application has stopped responding") do not terminate when I click "End ( Read more... )

You have to kill the process with the task manager, not the application... duh :-p

He says process, but then talks about it like he was trying to it from the application side (which flat out doesn't work.)
If you were trying to make me feel like an idiot you bolded the wrong words in the sentence.

Yeah, I did. In fact Trillian doesn't show up in the application list, only as trillian.exe in the process list.

The system is particularly brittle after waking up from sleep. Maybe it needs more RAM.

Look into pskill (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896683.aspx).

I find that it often can kill processes that Task Manager can't.
