One: New Boy
Maura kept telling them that the new boy at school was a unicorn, but no one believed her. It was incredibly unfair. She said his hair was white, and Miss Claire chuckled and corrected her, his hair was something called blond. She told Mr. Simpson about the time the new boy scraped his knee, falling, during recess and his forehead got all sparkly like a swarm of fireflies (her mother took her out catching fireflies, before she had to go away to school, which is how she knew what they looked like). Mr. Simpson forbade her to have sweets at morning snack after that, even though it was true and the new boy's knee didn't have a scratch. Being five was horrible.
