It strikes me that I've already used two too many emoticons in this message. Perhaps it's a particularly American thing to overuse emoticons ... ? I also have a problem of overusing adverbs when I write. Maybe the emoticon issue follows upon that and has nothing whatsoever to do with nationality ...
(Clearly I also have a tendency to overuse the ellipsis ...)
