Interesting. Honestly, I think that a lot of people use the "postmodern" label to excuse their sloppy writing, so I don't usually use that term in meta-type discussions about television shows. I have been intrigued by postmodern ideas and works of literature, but it's never really "clicked" for me, I don't think, in the way it has for you. My main stumbling block is that if *nothing* has meaning because it's just words that society has assigned to things, then why am I bothering? (this is actually more nihilistic than postmodern, but like you said, they overlap). Needless to say, if a tv show adopts that viewpoint then I won't bother to watch that tv show! (Of course I do end up watching those tv shows anyway ( ... )

The concept of postmodernism and nihilism are fascinating because they almost make sense, they are almost correct; but ultimately, the concepts are self defeating because like you say, if nothing really matters then why bother ( ... )

You put your finger on why post-modernism doesn't quite work for me: it's far too close to that teenage mentality that always turns me off when displayed by a fictional character.

Regarding the coda...I too seem to vaguely remember Baltar and Six saying that, but a narcissistic betrayer of his race and a genocidal robot aren't the most reliable of narrators, are they?(and I say this as their biggest fans.) I mean, I don't think they ever even told us if Head!Six/Baltar existed or not! Anyway, now we're getting into weird issues of authorial intent and whether the overall message of the show was supposed to be "God did it" or not. I like to think that it wasn't--but like I said, that's just me trying to mold the events of the show into an explanation that's more pleasing to my brain.

Re the teenage mentality: The things that I have heard about Juliet's son on V are enough to keep me away from that show.

You know I actually liked Baltar before he got into the whole preaching business. Some of it has to do with the show, but most of it has to do with the fact that tripped out preachers aren't quite as funny when you live in the bible belt portion of the country.

Random question of the day: Are you planning on watching the remake of LFN?

I saw the youtube preview a few days ago, and I irrationally hated it. I do know that LFN is a remake and had its headdesk moments, but I feel oddly protective of the show.
