What I learned in 2010

Nov 13, 2010 01:35

Yeah, I know 2010 still has another month to go, but I will probably be stressed to the maximum with papers being due and my father's Christmas tree lot so I have decided to sum up 2010 in November.

The year 2010: A picspam production )

Awww! Happy endings are not overrated! Though goodness, LFN and Xena didn't give us those, did they?

Madeline and Gabrielle! What different favorites! I really enjoy Madeline, particularly backstory Madeline, so I will definitely write her again.

So fun that we've watched the same shows!

I was thinking about LFN/Xena when I was making that 'Happy endings are not overrated." I mean, it didn't matter who was your favorite character on LFN, they all got a rather tragic end.

And Xena... well there is always fanfiction to solve that problem, with the best ones being

Return to me it does a Gabrielle/Aphrodite pairing that is believable and makes me briefly break from my strict X/G love until it makes everything copacetic between my favorite best friends

A Girl With A Chakram This just an awesome look at my girl Gabrielle trying to make it in a post FIN world. It does a really good job of incorporating their history into the narrative.

The New World Seriously, this one has it all: Clone, descendant, and reincarnated X/G with Ares, Aphrodite, and Alti along for the ride ( ... )

I'm sorry I'm always so late to respond to your comments. They are often so thinky and chewy that it takes me a while to come up with a response!

It's funny, I just found another Xena watcher out there and she and I share a 'ship. See, I didn't see the femslash thing with Xena and Gabrielle until the middle of the series. So many characters were trying to get into Xena's pants that I liked the idea that she and Gabrielle were just best friends who loved each other. I know that's in the femslash shipper thing too, it's all kinda wound together, but it was hard for me to change gears once the subtext became more overt.

I shipped Ares and Xena. :-) I'm usually a het shipper at first since my slash googles are often foggy and dusty. :-) But get this, I didn't want Ares and Xena to get together and live happily ever after, either. But I just sensed this chemistry between them and thought they sparked on screen together. And Kevin Smith was totally hot. :-)

Here are the only two fan fics that I read about with Xena and have kept ( ... )

Is she just watching the show for the first time or did she watch it a long time ago when it was airing? Because I was really surprised how well the show held up watching it in 2010.

See, I knew about the *subtext* before I started watching the show; but honestly, I thought that it would be one of those *much to do about nothing kind of things.* Sort of like a scene between them being considered *subtextual* only if you take it out of context completely. Um... Yeah, when I watched the show I realized that if anything, people had missed a lot of the *subtext.*

I love this! This is all sooo true. LOL. And you just made me realize that I really need more Madeline/LFN picspams in my life.

Also, this:

In the year 2010, I learned that despite my bleeding liberal heart.... torture, under certain fictional scenarios, can be rather hot.

Story of my life. I feel like my feminist, Paul Krugman-reading, commie self should have my bleeding heart liberal card revoked. I actually did very well with an anti-torture speech that I wrote when I was a competitive speaker, but I knew I didn't mean it, because after writing that speech I just gleefully went back to re-watching all the LFN torture scenes. What's wrong with me? ;)

Hee!!!

You know, I would love to blame this all on LFN but I was listing to this old 90s cd I had and I'm just belting out the lyrics to the Cardigans Lovefool and after a while, I'm like 'Hmmm... maybe this song is not exactly the message I want to be repeating."

Pop culture is ruining my value system!
