He would have been better off blaming Hillary

Look, I'm not really up for arguing about the science of climate change anymore-I have my doubts, some of you don't, and there's not much out there (at the moment) that will move us toward the other's position.

But so long as AGW advocates paint me as a crank, I'm going to use this space to point out the useful (or maybe not-so-useful) idiots on ( Read more... )

environment, politics, idiots

He's a Congressman, that means he's automatically full of shit and doesn't know what he's talking about.

If this is what passes as a leader in AGW advocacy

It's not.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but it's still pretty astonishing coming from someone in a position to make policy decisions on the subject. Just another reason why we're fucked no matter the consequences of global warming.

My random thoughts on global warming and "solutions..."

If all of us have to revert to stone age behaviors where we don't drive cars, don't fly airplanes, and don't run factories, in order to "fix" global warming, it will never happen. Therefore, fuckit sez me. The solution presented already counters the problem set, as we'll never do what the greenies want us to do.

Now if we invest in nuclear power and other alternative sources of energy, I'm all for it. If the solar cell gets any more efficient/cheap, I'll cover my roof in the shit just to reduce my dependence on the grid. I have no problem with paying up front to reduce operating costs down the road, green or not, that's just common sense. Perhaps there is something to this whole Free Market after all... ;)

Someone pointed out the new phrase is 'climate change'. This is great for the enviro-loonies because they now have all bases covered. If the climate remains the same they can claim their ideas are working but we mustn't stop trying to prevent climate change. If the climate gets hotter they can claim we need to do more to prevent climate change. If it gets colder they can say it is a complex response and we need to do more to prevent climate change. Catch-22.
It is clear this has become a religious belief and no contradictory evidence will be allowed or acknowledged.

Anthropogenic climate change is what concerns the environmentalists.

I think whether it is anthropogenic or not, we should go ahead and make the easier changes. Improved fuel efficiency by a few miles per hour is not a really expensive change to make. Cleaner power plants are more expensive and take years to bring up. The pictures of the smog in China are pretty gross. We should be pressuring them to do something not having a President who pumps his fist in the air and says something like Goodbye from the World's #1 polluter at the G8.

I think that the effects of volcanoes are bigger than any anthropogenic effects. Anthropogenic effects may be cumulative though where as volcanoes are more like impulsive events that die out.

In foreign policy matters congressmen can be like urinal walls - you can write anything on them. In 1992, a Spy magazine reporter called some two score Republican congressional new-comers for the Newt Gingrich revolution and asked them what they were going to do about the situation in Freedonia. The neocons had not taken over then, so not one of them suggested regime change and getting rid of Groucho. Instead, they waffled in a statesmanlike way about the efforts they would take to ensure stability there. - http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2007/may/01/savefreedonia1
