Why Bart Isn't Allowed to Shop at Diagon Alley

May 16, 2011 11:35

It had started out simply enough: Uncle Max couldn't take Bart to Diagon Alley this year for last-minute stuff, so Bart had to ask other relatives if they were interested. This venture hadn't succeeded either, as cousin Wally remembered Bart's ADHD attitude a little too well and promptly refused on grounds of "cruel and unusual punishment." Ditto ( Read more... )

Mulan couldn't help the soft laugh that escaped her lips as she stood on tip-toe, peering over his shoulder. Bart was never one to do things by halves, and last minute shopping certainly wouldn't ever be one of those things! It was hard to do things by half, anyways, when you had such a speed to you that you could get it all done in one-hundred-halves the time it would take anyone else ( ... )

"One's better than nothing!" Bart grinned, handing over the list to her with ease. By now, he'd memorized the list after staring at it for so long, and if he'd forgotten an item, he figured he could just conjure said list up again. "You're the best at bargaining, so I figure it'd be best if you handled it."

As to where to start... Good question. Bart stared again at the list - containing mostly of potions ingredients, quills, a new robe (after the last fiasco in the potions lab), and even a new textbook of two - and then sheepishly shrugged, "The bookstore? That's probably the nearest one." Also the 'most boring stop' on their list, but Bart knew better than to voice that one out loud. Magical books were more interesting than their Muggle counterparts - especially since they had such weird ideas about Muggles - but books were still books.

Bart couldn't sit still long enough to actually read one! Plus, when he had Mulan with him, he'd rather spend time with her than a big fat book like Hogwarts: A History. "It's this way, right?"

"Deal," Mulan stated, taking the list with a smile and devouring the rest of what it said with ease. She didn't have a photographic memory like Bart, but she had one that served her well enough.

She had just mended the list a bit to include a few more potion ingredients (ones that could be used to create a general neutralizing serum, what with all those explosions that happened) when her best friend mentioned the bookstore, causing her to glance up. It was one of his least favourite stores, but she supposed he was suggesting it to get it over and done with. Perhaps as a cautionary measure, what with the fiasco that had happened last time. Whoever said not to judge a book by it's cover was probably a witch or a wizard, considering how fast certain texts took offense.

"Mhmm!" she grinned, letting him lead. A whole day with Bart, it was hard for her not to get excited about that!

He got to lead the way! That would have never happened with the relatives! This day was progressively getting better and better, even if they did have to visit the lame bookstore first. Grinning, Bart had to slow himself down so that he could walk beside Mulan - and not scare poor people into thinking a speed demon had visited town - without problems.

Opening the door for her and holding it open, he allowed her to walk through first. "Can't believe Prof's making me read this lame book over the summer," He grumbled, though he truly didn't look too upset. "I guess he knows what he's doing, but a book on time magic? Jeez."

It shouldn't be too hard to find; the main question Bart had was how to get the book in the first place. Most things related to time magic, in his experience, were under restricted access. (He remembered this after attempting to snag something for another class---and he'd been denied. Multiple times.) This store and Bart really just didn't get along.
