You know, I've talked to a lot of people in this city and a third of them seem to know what a chocobo is and how to take care of one. They talk about how useful they are, and how fast and how to groom one and how to breed them, yet I haven't seen any except the ones in the zoo. Maybe it's me, but that just seems odd that there's none in the wild

They're large birds, used mainly for riding and carrying supplies by those that can't afford other transportation - which is about everyone. They're also very useful in war, and can actually run over water if bred for it.
