What did I ever do to you, shoulder?

It happened again. In Tuesday's "boxing/full-contact fighting" class, I did what I will call throwing my shoulder out, because I've got no idea what it actually is. Twice. What you describe sounds like hyperextension. At least, that's what the doctors called it when I did it to my knee in Tae Kwon Do. It's bad for flexibility. Probably bad for other things, too.

How is it bad for flexibility? Does it just tighten the muscles up when it heals? What did the doctors tell you to do?

I would see a doctor, if you've got insurance for it. Sometimes, they can give you exercises that will help balance it. From doing the exercises for my left shoulder on both arms, my right arm/shoulder has also become a lot better--stronger, more stable, and better form. I have "sloppy" shoulders (actually a technical term!), and they gave me exercises for my stabilizing muscles to help my joints in particular.

You mean see a doctor immediately? I was planning on mentioning it whenever I have my annual exam--sooner if it has a problem again.
