Modern Mag 7

So, I'm confused (not unusual!). Can someone please explain to me the origin or existence of the modern day Magnificent 7 incarnation as ATF agents in Denver? As far as I can tell, the TV series (which I never did see), was a Western set in the 19th century (based on the movie of the same name).

Is the modern set only a fan creation?

Thanks! I was really scratching my head over this one. Pretty powerful fan creation if you ask me. Was there an "origin" fic?

Mag7 seems to be one of those fandoms that simply lent itself to AUs fabulously well, and unlike most fandoms where people write an AU and that's it, Mag7 has a very large number of "open" AUs where anyone who wants is able to play in that universe. Hence the proliferation of ATF fics.

I believe the ATF Bible might help.
