.... you may not have timed this yet, but at least in the production I saw of Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet, Mercutio's death scene is mandated at six minutes. That's six minutes where the dancer is staggering around looking melodramatic. One minute and it really would be melodrama, but at six, it breaches that barrier and leaps into the realm of the utterly nuts.

'Tis all wonderful music, though. :)

Haha, no, I didn't know that (though I don't think Mercutio's death is in the score for the orchestra suites, because those are selected pieces from the ballet) but that's ballet for you.

It is :D

Yeah, violino solo/violini soli and viola sola/viole sole. It must be said, though, that generally "solo" in English (as in "solo artist") actually translates as "solista" in Italian. But classical music stuck to its own lingo, as far as I understand?

Ice ice baby! How cold is it over there?

Haha, we were just really surprised: "Sola, what the hell is a sola, is it a spelling mistake?" Yes, we have our own lingo. Not that most of us understand it when the conductor asks for something like... piu traquillo (quasi andantino). I mean, I know it a little but not much. We're planning to buy a basic guide to music phrases, that would help a lot.

It's daytime now and -5 degrees and we're close to the shore. Record holder is some village in the south with -20 O_O

As for R&J the play. It is my opinion that this play is great, not because Romeo and Juliet's love is so unique, deep or even potentially long lasting(because, face it. It isn't and it wouldn't.)...it's the theme of two people choosing to love in an environment of hate.

:D I agree! But in my English class people kept whining how R and J were being stupid and I was sad about it because it's still an awesome play.
