Hobbit trailer further remark

Oh, and Tauriel's hair colour?

I liketehta's hair dye theory, but for those convinced elves do not die dye I think the simplest answer is that she's one of the Avari and descended from the Second Clan, aka the proto-Noldor.  Possibly one of her ancestors was a close relative of Mahtan.  Possibly not.  'Rare' does not have to mean 'confined to one

I think someone (possibly Urloth?) wrote a short crack fic (pre-Tauriel) in which Legolas turned out to be the spitting image of Maedhros, by a genetic fluke, but was in fact descended from a Tatya related to Mahtan.

Nobody seems to have mentioned that PJ probably gave Tauriel a distinctive colouring because she and Legolas are in action scenes together and he wants viewers to be able to tell them apart when they do their crazy stunts. Maybe it is too obvious to mention...

The brown hair was due to the mutagenic effect of hanging around Aule for too long, so a lot of people (and their descendants) could have it, without necessarily being related to each other.

I think Tauriel's a Noldo, possibly born in Beleriand, who moved to Mirkwood after the death of Gil-Galad. She was at the Dagorlad, and just never returned to Lindon.
