Okay, I'm going to buy some fuzzibunz diapers. Do you need like a cover with them? Do you need to buy anything else to go with them, or are they all you need to buy? I have NO idea and nobody I knows cloth diapers so there's nobody I can ask. We really really want cloth diapers to work, my husband could only wear cloth diapers when he was a baby ( Read more... )

Fuzzibunz are a "pocket" diaper. The anatomy breaks down to a layer of waterproof material (fleece or PUL usually) which in this case is PUL, or polyurathane laminate. Basically laminated waterproof nylon fabric ( ... )

Okay, this will probably sound like a REALLY dumb question, but when you change the diaper, do you just take out the insert or change the entire diaper? I haven't actually seen a fuzzibunz up close yet, so I'm sure once I actually see one I'll be able to figure this kind of stuff out real easily, but it never hurts to ask questions too! Oh and thank you so much for answering my questions!!

You change the whole thing. The baby pees or poops on the fleece inside the diaper so you can't reuse it without washing it. So you need to have at least a dozen per day for a newborn. If you are planning to wash every other day, plan to get 18-24 diapers of just about any kind.

If you go with a separate diaper and cover system then you don't have to change the cover every time, only if it get poop on it or is too wet or something. The entire thing must be changed each time for pocket diapers and All-in-ones (AIOs).

You change the whole diaper, or at least I do. I love my fuzzibunz by the way, and I'm currently stuffing them with prefolds, which work very well but are bulky.

I stuff with prefolds, too, because I already had them, and one infant prefold is enough absorbency for my toddler. We don't use FBs at night, though (he's mildly sensitive to fleece and needs a more breathable diaper/cover at night). Also, if you have a bunch of prefolds and a couple extra covers, you have some back-up diapers if you run out of FBs. Prefolds are also good as burp cloths, changing pads, and to dry off baby's bottom between changes.

I was planning on trying prefolds, because I also already have a ton of them, so I'm glad to hear they work so well.
