Bleaching?

I have some cloth pads from Gladrags -- one set is dark green flowered and the other is a plain purple. I use the same cleaning methods for both. The dark green ones come out perfectly clean. You can't even tell they have been used. The purple ones however look bleached where the blood was and this is from the point I rinse them after taking them ( Read more... )

This occurs sometimes and depends on the fabric. It's because of your menstrual blood and the acidity during the time of your flow (light or heavy). I don't think it can be fixed. Perhaps it can be avoided with other pads if you wear the pads only for heavy flow as this is when the acidity is lower. When menstrual flow begins to slow down during light flow, acidity comes back. It's mainly due to cheap fabric, in my opinion.

I don't think it's cheap fabric - I think it's probably just dependent on the dye they used.

I've found it's happened to some of the purple flannel pads I have, and also the only black topped pad I have (which is bamboo velour). These are only slightly though.... so it's not really an issue, but it does spoil the look of a pad.

When I've heard from customers/friends who it has also happened to (only a couple over the years), it's always been dark purple or black pads that have done it.

I've had bleaching on black underpants on the spot where my juices tend to collect.

The same thing happened to me with some purple flat cotton pads that I made myself. The only solution I came up with (however gross it sounds) is to bleach the entire pad to make it match by dumping my menstrual cup on it. Sounds gross, I know, and I've never actually done it. But that's one idea for you lol
