Insert size?

Jun 27, 2009 20:22

I just acquired some fingering weight hemp yarn and am thinking about stranding it with some of the cotton yarn in my stash to knit inserts as a stash buster. As I'm fairly new to cloth, I'd like to get an idea of what the typical sizes are for insert. I've been Googling, most of the info I've found has been for all in ones or doesn't give ( Read more... )

Daytime glad rags inserts are 2.5in by 7in once washed (just measured one of mine, lol!). Depending on the thickness of your knit inserts, it should fit fine, tho I'd consider adding an inch to the length.

Thanks for the measurements. :D We'll see what happens to this when it's blocked and dried, I figure if nothing else, someone in the house can find a use for a small super absorbent bit of cloth and it'll get written off as prototyping? Or something. Heh.

I think most inserts for pocket+insert style pads are not less than an inch smaller in either dimension than the pocket itself. I don't have any pads of that style, but I can provide you with the measurements (in inches) of the liners for my other customizable pads.
Lunapads (http://www.lunapads.com/): mini liner 7.5*2.5, maxi liner 9*2.5
Jazzypads (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=105659): maxi liner 9*3
Amys Rag Bag (http://amysragbag.com/): folding insert 8.5*2.75
Even if the holder is a set size, you may only need absorbency in the center, or the back or the front. If you're making your own inserts, you can customize them to the size you need. I'd recommend trying out a few different sizes to see what works best for you.

Cool, thank you. The other thought was to double knit an all in one with cotton/hemp on one side and wool on the other, and then sanity returned. :) Yeah, I'll be hand washing for the foreseeable future, but that sounds like it'd itch.
