Part 11

She stared out the window through the bright sunlight as she lay on her side in his bed.

His bed.

She hadn’t slept at all. She’d tossed and turned through the early morning hours, her mind racing.

This had to stop. It had to end.

This wasn’t a relationship.

But this was…something.

It was casual, yet comfortable. Thrilling and exciting. New and…wonderful.

But…it was him.

And it shouldn’t have been. Right?

It all was just happening incredibly fast. She closed her eyes and sighed as she drew her hand up to the pillow, clutching it with her fingers as she pulled her knees to her chest.

The last two days had been fun. But the pain. Oh the pain.

She had to get up. The nearness of him was too much. She could feel the warmth of his body as he lay next to her on his stomach, his arms shoved under his pillow. It was all she could do to keep herself from rolling over and running her hand along his back, lightly scratching it with her nails.

But she wouldn’t. She needed this time. She needed to think.

She took a deep breath, placed a hand on the mattress and pushed herself up, wincing. The sheet fell off her as she sat up. She was still naked.

She sighed and rolled her eyes. She quickly glanced around his bedroom, but her clothes were nowhere in sight.

Of course they weren’t.

She couldn’t be sure where they’d been flung last night. After they’d finished on top of the island countertop, he popped open a bottle of champagne his parents had been saving for a special occasion. He then asked her to grab the strawberries, whipped cream and champagne while he took care of something in the living room. She gathered them up as he called her into the room.

He’d only been in there a few seconds. But the fire was burning brightly in the fireplace as he lay on the rug in front of it with the old red fleece blanket draped over him.

Chills swept over her as she slowly walked closer to him in front of the fire. He sat up on his elbow and patted the floor next to him. She tilted her head and smirked at him. Hadn’t they just gone at it in the kitchen? She needed a small break.

But she sighed, rolled her eyes and dropped to her knees. He took the strawberries and whipped cream from her hands as she set the bottle of bubbly on the rug. He then lifted up the blanket for her to slide in under. She swiveled her legs around and under the blanket. He placed his hand on her back as she laid down on the soft plush rug.

He was different then. It was…slower.

He touched her face, cupping her cheek lightly in his hand, his thumb softly caressing her skin. His fingers gently ran through her hair as he stared at her with those now all too familiar bedroom eyes. He reached over to pick up a strawberry, dipping it generously into the container of whipped cream.

It dangled momentarily above her lips as he grinned at her. It slowly dropped to her lips as he smeared the whipped cream across them. She smiled as he leaned down and kissed her softly, softer than he had before, as he lightly sucked the whipped cream from her lips.

His gentle kisses were too much. There was something else there.

There was…emotion?

Nah. Couldn’t be. It was all in the name of good fun, right?

And this was him, right?

But…

She sighed and shook her head of the thoughts as she snapped back to the present. She was still naked and in dire need of caffeine.

Slowly, she stood and walked around the end of the bed. She needed clothing. But her head was foggy and she still couldn’t remember where she first undressed last night.

She quickly grabbed it as soon as she saw it. She tossed it on and buttoned it a few times before quietly opening his bedroom door. Turning around, she took one last longing look at him. He seemed so peaceful. And very exhausted.

As well he should be after what they’d been through in the last forty-eight hours.

She stared at him a few seconds longer than she should have. For those extra seconds made her realize how much she was enjoying seeing him first thing in the morning. She placed her hand on the doorframe and faintly smiled as she walked out and softly closed the door.

As she moved closer to the stairs, she had a sinking feeling they didn’t clean up the kitchen or living room last night. They’d moved up to the bedroom after the rare romantic interlude he’d initiated in front of the fire. Another chill rippled through her as she thought back to it.

She’d never…well. It was something she wouldn’t mind experiencing again.

She rounded the corner at the top of the landing and slowly plodded down the stairs, yawning as she ran a hand through her hair in a vain attempt to smooth it down.

It was a mess. She could sense it. Chocolate syrup was on the counter. Whipped cream was somehow smeared all over the barstool. And the bottle of KY warming liquid was still sitting out on the island countertop.

She took one step into the kitchen. That’s when she heard the familiar voice behind her.

“’Bout time you got up, Lois. Now, is there anything you’d like to tell me?”

XxX

Part 12

She knew who it was without turning around. She knew that voice anywhere.

She closed her eyes and winced as she slowly spun around.

“What are you doin’ here, Chlo?”

Chloe smirked as she crossed her arms and took a step closer to her cousin.

“Oh no, Miss Lane. I think I’ll be the one asking the questions right now.” She paused as she looked Lois up and down. “Like…why are you wearing Clark’s flannel shirt and…apparently, only his flannel shirt?”

It was times like this she truly hated her cousin’s career choice.

Okay, Lane. This looks bad.

She remembered the KY liquid still sitting out.

Okay…so it looks really bad.

She glanced in the living room. The bottle of champagne was turned over, its contents drank rather quickly by the two of them last night.

Her gaze dropped to the floor as she tried to think of some possible excuse to make the whole situation seem innocent.

That’s when she noticed their towels still lying in a heap in the floor in between the barstools. She gasped softly to herself as she slowly moved closer to them. Maybe the intrepid investigative reporter wouldn’t notice.

She looked up at her cousin.

“Look, Chloe. It’s not what you think.”

Clever, Lane.

Chloe smiled and nodded her head.

“Not what I think? And what exactly do you think I think, Lois?”

Um…

Stall!

She quickly darted her eyes and spun around, kicking the towels further under the barstools and grabbing the bottle of KY liquid off the counter. She was pretty sure Chloe already thoroughly scanned the place, but she just couldn’t leave that sitting out any longer. She walked around the end of the counter to the other side. She yanked the towel drawer open and threw the bottle inside, then slammed it shut.

Chloe seemed to be watching this all with great amusement. Just what was going through that head of hers?

“I think you know what I think you think.” She paused, quickly going through it in her mind once again just to make sure it made sense. “Whatever. Look, nothing…happened. Okay?”

Her cousin walked closer to the island, her arms still crossed as she smiled and tried to contain her laughter.

“Really, Lois? I think the whipped cream, chocolate syrup, champagne and uh…KY would say differently…don’t ya think?”

“Chloe!”

“Oh, come on, Lois. It’s so obvious. A blind man could walk in here and instantly know what happened.”

She didn’t see him until it was too late. She and Chloe turned to look at him just as he began to speak.

“Lois? What is all the yelling for?” He slowly walked down the stairs, rubbing his eyes and yawning. All while still naked. He tried to stifle another yawn as he spoke. “Why don’t you just come back to bed?”

“Clark!”

Lois ran for one of the towels she’d previously kicked under the barstool and hustled over to him, wrapping it around his waist.

Chloe quickly turned back around, her eyes wide.

“Yo, I did not need to see that.” She paused and smiled. “Well…a little glimpse never hurt anyone though.”

“Chloe!”

Lois smacked her cousin on the arm as Clark pulled her back to him, a beaming smile on his face.

“Hey, don’t yell at her. If you’re mad, then why don’t you just take out your frustration on me this morning?” He winked as he leaned in, kissing her fiercely on the lips. He pulled away and looked into her eyes. “Whatd’ya say? Come back to bed?”

She couldn’t help but fall every time she looked into those eyes. And when he winked? Well…heaven help her.

The immediate clearing of a throat reminded them they were not alone in the kitchen that morning. And they probably had some explaining to do.

XxX

Part 13

Lois closed her eyes. She did not want to do this.

After all, just how do you explain standing scantily clothed in the kitchen of a farm boy you’re not supposed to get along with, much less like? How do you explain the chocolate syrup, whipped cream and champagne? How do you explain…

No. There was no way she could explain the KY.

But what right did Chloe have just barging in the Kent’s house anyway?

“So, anyone care to fill me in on what’s going on around here?”

Lois slowly turned around to face her cousin. The smirk plastered on Chloe’s face didn’t seem to help her growing anxiety and slight anger, especially at herself.

“Look, Chloe, it’s just tha--”

“Lois and I have been…busy, Chloe.” He stepped from behind Lois and walked closer to Chloe. “And, frankly, we’d like to stay busy. So, if you don’t mind…” He took her by the arm and gently, but forcibly shoved her towards the door.

Chloe and Lois seemed to shout in unison.

“Clark!”

Lois grabbed his arm as he turned to look at her.

“Lois, she can’t be here during fun time.”

Fun time? This boy really was on something.

Chloe smiled and threw up her hands as Lois scoffed.

“Hey, trust me, I don’t want to be here during fun time.”

Lois sighed.

“Can we stop talking about fun time, please?” She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, assessing the situation. “Okay, Clark. Why don’t you go upstairs and take a shower. I need to talk to my cousin for a few minutes.” He looked dejected until she added, “And then I’ll come join you.”

He smiled, let go of Chloe’s arm, embraced Lois and softly kissed her.

Men. They were too easy. Promise them nakedness and they’re putty in your hand.

“Okay. But don’t be too long.”

She smiled politely as he moved past her toward the stairs, slowly walking up each one while looking back at her. He grinned and winked as he rounded the top of the landing.

One down. One to go.

“So…?”

Lois slowly spun around, but couldn’t manage to make eye contact with Chloe.

“Look, Chlo. I know what you’re thinking. It’s what I’d be thinking, too. But I can assure you there’s nothing going on between me and Smallville.”

“Lois. If you’re trying to spare my feelings, don’t. I can see how he looks at you. Clark is in love. And from the looks of it, so are you.”

What?!

No. No. No. No.

This wasn’t love. Love was more. Love was…

That slight chill swept back over her as she instantly remembered seeing him sleeping in bed that morning. She wanted that every morning.

“Chloe…”

She wanted to protest. She needed to protest. This was an outrage. How dare Chloe say something like that.

Chloe simply grinned.

“Yes, Lois?”

Lois opened her mouth to speak, but huffed, rolled her eyes and spun around. She began cleaning off the kitchen island, tossing most of the contents in the trash.

She reached in the cabinet under the sink, grabbed a sponge and cleaner and started scrubbing away at the countertop.

She’d do anything to avoid talking to her cousin about sex with Clark.

But the girl in her finally got the best of her.

She threw down the sponge, put a hand on her hip and looked at Chloe, who was still smiling in great amusement.

“I mean, I just don’t get it, Chlo. What the heck has gotten into that boy? We’ve been goin’ at it like rabbits for the last forty-eight hours and he’s only paused to sleep. And if it hadn’t been for all that champagne, he probably wouldn’t have slept as long last night as he did!” She took a breath and grabbed the cleaner, spraying the countertop once again and scrubbing fiercely with the sponge as she spoke. “We’ve done it just about everywhere, too. I mean, we even broke the freakin’ dining room table. He’s got me doing things I’ve never done before in places and at times I’ve never done them.” She sighed and stopped scrubbing as she looked up at Chloe. “But at the same time, he’s just been… He’s been so… Oh, Chloe, it’s just been something I’ve never had before. I mean, when he’s kissing me, I can feel his kisses. It’s not just fun and games anymore. It might have started out that way, but now… Now, it’s…”

“Love?”

Lois rolled her eyes.

“I didn’t say that.”

Chloe tilted her head and smirked.

“You didn’t have to.”

Lois smiled. Chloe was always right.

“Lois!”

He was beckoning from the bathroom. She sighed.

Chloe smiled and winked.

“You better get up there, Lois. You don’t want to miss fun time.”

Part 14

The steam hit her face as she slowly opened the bathroom door. She could smell the Old Spice bodywash instantly as she ducked in the room and softly closed the door.

His silhouette through the opaque shower curtain was the picture of Greek god perfection. She had to stare, if only for a moment. After all, she was still a girl and did her best to appreciate the finer things in the opposite sex.

She watched as he ran his fingers through his hair, gently lathering the shampoo, then rinsing it clean under the water.

Love. Was it?

It couldn’t be. How could you love someone, let alone be in love with someone, just because you’d had non-stop sex with them in the last two days?

But… She just had this feeling. It was weird. She wasn’t sure how to describe it.

After all, it’s not like she hadn’t had sex before. She had. But it was never quite like this.

No. She’d had sex before, but she’d never had passion.

Clark Kent was passionate.

He wasn’t himself lately though. He was confident, sexy and overpowering at times. She loved it, but she also missed the Clark she’d first met in that small town Starbucks forgot.

She missed the funny, dorky, innocent farm boy who gradually became her best friend.

Something was going on. Something weirder than usual.

Maybe if she just talked to him…

She slowly unbuttoned his flannel shirt she’d thrown on earlier that morning and tossed it on the bathroom floor next to his pile of dirty clothes. She gently opened the shower curtain at the end of the tub and stepped in behind him.

His back was to her as she couldn’t help but place her hands on his clean wet body. Her hands began lightly rubbing his back, up and down his sides, then slowly found their way around his front to his abs. She stepped closer to him, wrapping her arms around him as her body softly pressed up against his. He let out a small moan.

“I almost thought you weren’t going to join me.”

She smiled as she pressed her cheek against his back. She had to admit it felt nice.

No. It felt better than nice.

It felt safe. It felt comforting.

It was wonderful.

Why couldn’t she just stay in that moment?

He turned around in her embrace and looked down at her. The bedroom eyes were back.

But she couldn’t. It’s not that she didn’t want to. It’s that she really couldn’t.

After all, a girl could only take so much pain for the sake of pleasure. And she’d had her fill, at least for a while. Besides, Clark was a big guy. She’d known that since the night she’d found him naked in the cornfield. But she was just too sore.

She sighed.

“Clark…”

He smiled and closed his eyes as he gently kissed her forehead.

“Lois…”

She wasn’t going to do it. She needed a break, if only for a day. Or a few hours, anyway.

She would stand her ground. She would be firm.

Pushing away from him, she avoided all dreamy-eyed contact and grabbed the bottle of shampoo.

“Clark, I can’t.”

She knew she shouldn’t have looked at him. But she was still a girl. And he was cute. And naked. And wet.

One glance at those sad baby blues did it for her.

“It’s okay, Lois. I don’t want to push you.” What? He sure had a fine way of not pushing. Did he even remember all the sex? He reached for her face and swept a strand of hair out of her eyes, tucking it behind her ear. He smiled as he spoke. “I care about you too much to force you to do something you don’t want.”

Oh crap.

And there it was. Was Chloe right? Did Clark love her?

It couldn’t be. It was way too soon, right? So what? They’d had sex so now he was in love with her? It didn’t work that way. Life wasn’t that easy. If it was, then she should’ve been in love with several guys. And she wasn’t.

So, why did that familiar chill sweep over her as he said those words? Why did she only manage to mumble a quick “Thanks,” before turning around and lathering up her hair?

He was making her more nervous now than the first time they’d had sex on her bathroom floor.

She wasn’t… She couldn’t…

She didn’t have feelings for him. At least, she didn’t think so.

Damn Chloe and her psychological insight.

But maybe she just needed to talk to Chloe again, without Clark anywhere nearby. She didn’t dare trust her own logic at this point. Not with the way she was feeling.

If she could, she’d have him right then and there in the shower. But, oh the pain.

She had to go to Metropolis and talk to Chloe.

Squeezing past him, she maneuvered under the shower head and rinsed her hair clean. He watched her for a moment as she ran her fingers through her hair, then lathered up with her lavender bodywash. She tried her best to avoid his eyes. She didn’t trust herself when she fell into them. They were too powerful and made her want to do unmentionable things to him.

She rinsed and turned off the faucets, then pulled the shower curtain open, stepped out of the tub and grabbed a nearby towel. He never said a word, but slowly stepped out of the tub and also began drying off with a clean plush blue towel. He watched her rub her hair in her towel as she threw his flannel shirt back on and buttoned it.

As she walked to the door, she knew he was watching her every move, but she still avoided his gaze.

“Chloe had to go back to Metropolis. I’m gonna go see her this afternoon. I’ve got some things to take care of. I probably won’t be back until later tonight.”

She reached in the floor by the vanity and grabbed her clothes that’d been flung off the night before when they’d had sex in the tub. She took a deep breath and quickly opened the door. She had to get out of there. He spoke, still naked and seemingly dumbfounded, as she swiftly walked down the hall to his bedroom and shut the door.

“Okay. I’ll call you later.”

XxX

Part 15

She didn’t remember leaving the farm house. She didn’t even remember driving to Metropolis. She could barely remember where she parked her car.

But somehow she made it to the Daily Planet.

Reporters, copy editors, and gophers hurried around her as she stood motionless at the bottom of the stairs in the basement of the busy newspaper, her hands shoved deep in her pockets. She stared at her blonde cousin scurrying about from one filing cabinet to the other, checking files, making copies and finally sitting at her desk, typing away at the keyboard.

Chloe hadn’t seen her yet. Lois was still gathering her thoughts, as she’d done all morning, to have a necessary girl talk session.

She finally took a deep breath and walked to Chloe’s desk.

“We need to talk.”

Chloe’s head shot up from her computer screen, her face falling from a smile to a concerned and quizzical look once she saw her worried cousin.

“Lois? What’re you doing here?” She rose from her chair, a file in hand, and walked to a nearby filing cabinet, slinging open the drawer. “I thought you and Clark would’ve been, um, busy again.”

Chloe smirked as she placed the file in the drawer and closed it, turning to face Lois.

Lois rolled her eyes and sighed, placing her fingertips to her temples.

“Yeah, well, I’m sure if I’d stayed, that’s exactly what’d be happening. But I just couldn’t stay any longer, Chlo.”

Not that she didn’t want to. Well. She did and she didn’t. Over the past few days, her feelings toward him had completely overwhelmed her. She loved being with him, although she wasn’t sure who she was ready to admit that to. Even admitting it to herself still concerned her. But she’d seen Clark in a whole new light. And she didn’t just mean the sexy glow of the candlelight as he sat naked in a tub full of bubbles.

“Did something happen, Lois? Did he do something to you?”

Ha! He sure did do something to her. He’d completely confused her. She hadn’t known him that long, but he’d quickly become one of her best friends. But now, they’d been in the sack together, knocking boots for the last two days. It was the most passionate sex she’d ever had. But it wasn’t even the sex. The romantic stuff in between the sex was just as passionate. He was sweet, thoughtful, and sincere in his kisses. It was just all so…wonderful. And the romantic in her loved it.

“No. No, Chloe, nothing like that. Nothing bad. It’s just…” Did she dare say it? How far should she take it? “It feels so right, but I just know it’s wrong.”

She sighed and sank into Chloe’s swivel desk chair.

What could she do? She knew it needed to stop. She knew it couldn’t go on. Was he just using her for sex? It just didn’t feel like it. Not when he said her name, not when he looked in her eyes, not when he kissed her.

Chloe sighed.

“You’re right, Lois. We do need to talk.” Lois’s head shot up. “Follow me.”

Chloe led Lois into the back file room and closed the door.

“Chloe? What’s going on?”

Chloe crossed her arms against her chest and looked to the floor. Lois could tell, whatever it was, her little cousin didn’t want to say it.

“I know why Clark’s acting the way he is.”

What?

Did she mean the weirdness or the sex?

“What? What’dya mean?”

Or did she even want to know? Of course, at this point, she had to get some sort of explanation.

Chloe looked over to one of the filing cabinets, then, mustering courage, looked up at Lois.

“Do you remember a few days ago when you were at the Kents’ telling them about your leaky shower?”

What did that have to do with anything?

“Uh…yeah. But, Chloe, what does that--”

“Do you remember I was there?”

Did Chloe have something to do with Clark’s sudden need for the horizontal polka?

“Yeah…”

Where was she going with this?

Chloe sighed and crossed her arms tighter against her body.

“Clark had called me. He wanted to talk to me about something. He didn’t realize you’d show up that day, but he was glad later that you did.” The farm boy was glad she’d shown up? That had to be a first. “He wanted to tell you something. Err…well, actually, I talked him into wanting to tell you something.”

Chloe wasn’t making any sense. Clark never told her anything that day. All he did was quickly volunteer to help fix her leaky shower.

“But, Chloe, he never said anything to me.”

“Well, he was going to. Or he was supposed to, rather. That’s why he offered to fix your shower. He was going to tell you then.”

She couldn’t take any more of this vague code.

“Tell me what, Chlo?”

She could tell Chloe didn’t want to say it.

“That he has feelings for you, Lois.”

What? Clark…had feelings…for her?

Well, she probably could’ve guessed as much judging by the events of the last couple of days. But to actually hear someone say it…out loud. That was the real kicker. And she felt it right in the pit of her stomach.

“Chloe, that’s not something to joke about. Why would Clark ever--”

“I can’t explain it. But…he was going to tell you. He called me that day and wanted to talk it over. I said that I wasn’t the one he should be telling…that he needed to talk to you.” She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Lois shifted her footing and crossed her arms, slowly taking in Chloe’s, albeit somewhat late, confession. “He was supposed to tell you, but apparently…he didn’t.”

Lois laughed softly.

“No, we just had sex on my bathroom floor instead.”

Chloe smirked and shot Lois a quizzical look.

“Yeah, about that. I know Clark has feelings for you. But…Lois…that took two people. I mean, Clark didn’t just have sex with you. You had sex with him, too.”

It didn’t happen often, but lately Lois Lane had been flustered.

“Yeah…well. It was…just. It was the heat of the moment. I just got caught up in it.”

Chloe snorted.

“Oh, really? So, did you just get caught up in the heat of the last forty-eight hours, then?”

Lois smirked and cocked her hips to the side.

“Look, I don’t know…” She sighed. “I don’t know. That’s it. I just don’t know what’s come over me. I know that it’s weird, and that I’ve never experienced it before, and I don’t know.” She paused and looked away briefly, then back to Chloe. “But I do know…that I’ve never been treated like this before. And it’s been simply…wonderful. I even don’t mind the pain…that much.”

Chloe threw up her hands.

“Okay, cuz! I don’t need to know details. Just general facts will do. As much as I love both you and Clark, I don’t want to know the intimate details of what goes on between the sheets…or anywhere else, apparently.” Lois smiled. They had done it in several places she never had before. And Mrs. Kent’s dining room table! She didn’t know if she could ever sit down to a meal there again without blushing. “Oh, stop smiling! You’re thinking about it now, aren’t you?!”

Lois tried in vain to control her smile.

“No…” It was no use. Her smile broadened. “Well, okay.”

Chloe smiled and rolled her eyes, then stared at Lois for a moment before quickly looking away, her smile suddenly fading. She sighed as she spoke.

“Lois. There’s something else you should know.”

Uh…oh. That tone didn’t sound too good. In fact, it sounded worse than before.

“What more is there?”

Chloe looked back at Lois. She could see what appeared to be pain or regret in her blonde cousin’s eyes. Maybe it was both.

“Do you remember how I stopped you before you left the farm house that day after Clark said he’d fix your shower?”

Did Chloe have even more to do with this?

“Yeah…”

“Do you remember what I gave you?”

Okay, the confusion had to be written all over her face, because she couldn’t figure this one out to save her life.

“Yeah, these earrings. I love ‘em. I wear ‘em all the time. Red goes with everything.”

Chloe laughed lightly. She kept her eyes down and placed one hand on her hip, resting the other on the handle of a nearby filing cabinet.

“Right. Well. You see, Lois. Those aren’t just any old earrings. As it turns out, they’re made up of Kryp---err…some of the red meteor rock. And it’s affected Clark. That’s why he’s acting the way he is…being confident, having non-stop sex-a-thons. It makes him lose all his inhibitions.”

Wha--?

She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. But…did this mean…that maybe…he didn’t want to have sex with her? Not that it mattered. Well. It’s just… If it wasn’t for her earrings, would he still feel the same way as when they were naked?

But…there seemed to be a larger question looming in between the cousins in the small dark room.

“So, you mean, these little earrings are made of meteor rock?”

“Yeah.”

“And, they’re what’s made Clark do the dance that makes the world go ‘round with me multiple times in multiple places?”

“Yeah.”

“And you knew about this and didn’t say anything?” The silence spoke louder than Chloe ever could have. Besides, she couldn’t hide the guilt that was plastered on her face. Lois scoffed and started to turn for the door. “Right. I can’t believe this.”

Chloe reached for Lois’s arm.

“Wait, Lois.” Lois paused and turned back to Chloe. “Look. Yes, I knew what they’d do to him. I’d seen it before. But…you have to know that I only had everyone’s best intentions at heart. I never dreamed it’d go this far! Never would I have thought that Clark would be the horn dog that he apparently is when he’s on that stuff.” She sighed and released her grip on Lois’s arm. “It was just a backup in case he chickened out of telling you his feelings. I never meant any harm. And…I’m so sorry, Lois.” She should be mad. She should be furious. Part of her was, if only for the fact that her cousin lied to her and tricked, not only her, but Clark, too. “If it makes you feel any better…he called me yesterday.”

“He called you? About what?”

Chloe sighed and crossed her arms again, leaning back against the filing cabinet.

“He knew Lois. He knew your earrings were affecting his behavior. He wanted it to stop. He didn’t want to hurt you, but he just couldn’t control himself whenever you were around with those earrings on.”

But…

“I’ve had the earrings on the whole time!”

“That’s what he said. He called me when you were gone to the store. He said he was gonna try and set up something…a romantic gesture…and just tell you his feelings when you came back. But apparently--”

“Whenever I’m around, he’s gets off like he’s got a free pass and no morals at the Playboy mansion.”

It was all finally beginning to come together. His moodiness. The shift from lovey-dovey to full-on male horniness at the drop of her panties. The change from sweet and romantic by the fire to hard and rough on the dining room table.

Clark Kent had been fighting with himself.

“He didn’t like it, Lois.” What? But she thought she was pretty good! “I mean, the sex he liked, or so he told me even when I didn’t ask.” Whew. “But he didn’t like having sex with you when he couldn’t just be himself. He said he’d much rather not have sex and be Clark, than have sex and not be Clark.”

Lois sighed and crossed her arms again. She bit her lower lip, letting it all sink in. The last few days were a lot to take. And the revelations in the last few minutes didn’t seem to help either.

“I don’t know, Chloe.” She looked at her feet and shook her head. “I mean…this is just…”

“I know, Lois. But…maybe you should just talk to him. I mean, now that you know how he feels…of course, I wouldn’t let on. He’d kill me if he knew I told you.”

Lois laughed and rolled her eyes.

“I hate to break it to ya, Chlo, but he’s probably gonna kill you anyway for these things.” She pointed at the hunks of red rock dangling from her earlobes. “And if I’m going to be around that horny little man again,” she smiled and raised her eyebrows briefly, realizing just how little Clark wasn’t, “then I won’t be wearing these.” She reached for her earlobes and took out the earrings, handing them to Chloe. “Do whatever you want with them. I just don’t want them anymore. I’m too sore.”

Chloe grinned and laughed.

“Fine, Lois. I’ll put them away.”

Lois turned around and grabbed the doorknob, then hesitated and looked back at Chloe.

“You know, I still can’t believe you’d do something like that, Chlo.”

Chloe smirked and rolled her eyes, following Lois out the door.

“Well, I’m sure somewhere deep down you’re thankful for it, Lo. After all, Clark said you never complained.”

Part 16

She’d been lost in her thoughts ever since she left Metropolis. Why did she have to leave those earrings in all the time? Why did she give in and have sex with Clark…too many times to count? And why did a small part of her regret giving the earrings back to Chloe?

Chloe. She knew her cousin meant well, but there were other ways she could’ve gotten Clark to divulge his true feelings.

She’d heard Woody Allen say once that “love is the answer, but while you’re waiting for the answer, sex brings up some interesting questions.” And boy, had it ever. Of course, not that love was the answer here. Well…

What was she gonna even say to him? Did she dare tell him Chloe squealed? Would that push him away? She cared about him too much to ever want that to happen.

But…wait. She cared about him? As more than friends or even friends with benefits?

How had he done it? How had he sneaked into her heart during marathon sex? But maybe it was everything in between. The way he smiled. Oh, how his smile could melt her heart and make her blush simultaneously. His soft caresses, even after the romps in the hay, repeatedly sent chills rippling through her body. And then there was his reaction that morning. She didn’t want to go at it again in the shower and he didn’t push her. And she respected him for that. She knew the meteor rock was strong, but maybe Clark Kent was stronger. Her inner turmoil had been difficult, but if Clark had been fighting the effects of the meteor rock, he’d apparently won somehow that morning.

Her car turned down the familiar and dusty dirt lane. The drive from Metropolis to his farm was second nature to her now. Of course, the drive from just about anywhere to his farm was second nature. She loved it. And, deep down somewhere, she knew she loved coming home to him.

He was different from all her other boyfriends. Not that he was her boyfriend. Although, she had slept with each of her boyfriends, regardless of how long each relationship lasted. Most of her regretted that. But in the back of her mind, she thought they loved her. So, whenever she was pressed to strip naked, she usually did.

But that day in her apartment, with the water pouring all around them, it was different. There was something else she hadn’t witnessed before with other guys. She could see it in his eyes. At the time, she couldn’t quite make out what it was. But now, after much contemplation and Chloe’s recent revelations, she finally knew.

This time it was love.

Her car stopped next to the barn. It was getting late. The sun had set on her drive back. She stepped out of the car and started to walk towards the house, but something caught her eye. She glanced up through the open barn door. Soft light filtered from the loft.

She crossed her arms and sighed. Was she ready for this? She supposed she had to be.

Mustering up the courage, she walked through the open doorway and over to the stairs leading to his loft. She slowly sauntered up them, stuffing her hands in her pockets as she silently rehearsed her speech to him. She wouldn’t back down. They had to talk about all the sex. They had to talk about the few times he didn’t use a condom. They had to talk about the possibility of--

What the…?

She abruptly stopped at the top of the landing and took in the scene before her.

“Clark…Wha…I…”

He smiled as he walked closer to her.

“Hi, Lois.”

He leaned in and softly kissed her on the cheek. But she couldn’t take her eyes off the candles. They were everywhere. Hundreds of glowing white candles filled the loft. They were on the floorboards, the railings, even in the massive window near his telescope. And they weren’t the only thing. Rose petals littered the old wooden floor.

She looked at him, her mouth moving, but words just couldn’t come out.

Finally, she managed to softly squeak out, “What is all this?”

He smiled that beaming Kent smile and took her arm, removing her hand from her pocket. He grasped her hand and led her to the center of the room.

“This…this is something I should’ve done a few days ago. But we uh…we sort of got side-tracked by those earrings.” He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. She looked up at him surprised. “Chloe called me after you left. She said you were coming back here. And…that you gave the earrings back to her.”

Lois took a deep breath.

“Yeah, well. Honestly, I couldn’t take the pain anymore. You have no idea what it’s like to have something shoved up in you multiple times, several times a day.” Err…did she just say that out loud? She quickly cleared her throat. “Uh, that didn’t come out right. I mean, it did. I just…I mean..”

Clark laughed softly.

“It’s okay, Lois. I know. And I never meant to hurt you. It’s just that, with that red meteor rock, I can’t always control my actions. I’m not myself when I’m near that stuff. Or, maybe I am. Maybe all of those feelings were just hidden under the meteor rock. It seems to release my inhibitions.” He stopped and looked at her, squeezing her hand a little tighter. “But, I just want to say…I’m sorry.”

She was never looking for an apology. But that proved to her the kind of man Clark Kent truly was.

“Clark, you don’t have to apologize. It’s not your fault. That distinction belongs to Chloe.” He smiled as she continued. “Besides, part of me is glad this happened. I mean, sure I would’ve loved to have found out these feelings without the aid of a rock from a distant galaxy, but how was I to know what Chloe was up to? And anyway, it’s all in the past now.”

She took a breath as he softened his smile. “Lois, in all my life, I’ve never known anyone quite like you. You take me for who I am, regardless of secrets, sex or meteor rock.” He paused. “And, I don’t know what you’ve heard, if Chloe told you everything, but… Lois…” He stepped closer to her, cupping her face with his hand. “I think I might have some…feelings…for you.” His voice squeaked slightly at the final admission.

It’s not that she was shocked. She really wasn’t. But…for him to actually say it, well, it was enough to make both her heart and stomach flip.

She smiled. Maybe it was love, or at the very least, curiosity and like, which very often led to love.

He leaned in, closing his eyes.

She really shouldn’t. What about the pain? She watched him move closer. Oh, screw the pain. The butterflies in her stomach were flapping too loudly for her to notice the pain anyway.

She followed his lead and slowly rose on the tips of her toes. He wrapped his arms around her as his lips ever so softly touched hers. He gently sucked her bottom lip in between sliding his tongue gradually in and out of her mouth. The chills cascaded through her as she pulled him closer. No other guy could do the things he did. She couldn’t take it. She knew what he was like, and she wanted more. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t resist a passionate Clark Kent.

Placing her hand on his belt, she quickly unbuckled it and whipped it off. She unbuttoned and unzipped his pants, but he quickly placed his hands on hers and pulled away.

“Wait, Lois.” Wait? She couldn’t wait. She could feel the burning in her loins. Damn Clark Kent and his irresistibility in the candlelight! “Are you sure you want to do this? I mean…I’m just Clark.”

She looked up at him and smiled, her hands on his jeans, ready to pull them and his boxers down in one swift motion.

“But that’s all I want. Just you.”

He smiled broadly through the soft glow of the candlelight and pulled her closer. He kissed her gently again as he began to walk backwards, leading her to the alcove behind the old sofa. She broke the kiss as he squatted and sat on some old quilts he’d previously laid in the floor. There were more candles and rose petals surrounding them.

He laid back on the quilts as she, remembering his magician’s trick, grabbed the bottom of his jeans and whipped them off in one quick motion, tossing them behind her over the back of the sofa. He grinned and shook his head. She straddled him and he sat up, removing her shirt and tossing it in the direction of his jeans, kissing her as her hair fell around her shoulders. He moved from her mouth to her neck, softly sucking on the place every woman loves, just below the ear, under the jaw line.

He had all the right moves. His hands ran up and down her back, his fingers finding their way to her bra and unfastening it. She unbuttoned his shirt as he quickly took it off and tossed it over the couch. His t-shirt flew above his head just as fast while she threw her bra to the side and gently grasped the elastic waist of his flannel boxers, slowly pulling them up and over his erection and sliding them down his legs. They, too, were tossed in the general direction of the sofa. He flipped her over and pulled her panties down, tossing them aside.

He crawled on top of her. She could feel him between her legs. He was already wet, but then again, so was she. He looked down at her. Those blue eyes got to her every time.

His penis hovered between her legs, teasing her. She ran her fingers through his hair as he leaned on his elbows on either side of her.

“Lois, you’re sure?”

She sighed.

“Clark, shut up and f**k me.”

He seemed shocked, but smiled as she pulled him closer. She rose up and kissed him hard on the lips, shoving her tongue deep into his mouth. He returned the favor and massaged her tongue with his own. She had to be closer. Pulling her legs up, she wrapped them around his, interlocking them, and thus, moving their hips closer. He kissed her neck, her chest, moving to her breasts, running his tongue in circles around them before taking them, one after another, in his mouth, gently sucking her nipples.

She had to have him. It couldn’t wait any longer.

She pulled him up to her mouth and kissed him, pushing her hips up into him, as if to say, “Put it in now!”

He must’ve read her mind, because he slowly entered and began moving in and out, soft and easy at first, then gradually harder and faster. She wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him close, kissing his cheek and lightly sucking his earlobe. She moaned softly in his ear, which seemed to make him more excited. He turned his head and buried his face in her neck, shoving his arms under her and holding her tightly.

“Lois…”

She closed her eyes and exhaled. No other guy did that during sex. No other guy ever said her name. Most just wanted to get off.

She bit her lip as she moaned and her breaths quickened. She interlocked her legs with his even more. She was coming and knew he was, too. She bucked her hips up into him as he pressed her against the old quilt. He kept his eyes closed, but kissed her hard and passionately on the lips. She could feel him still pumping inside her. It wasn’t until that moment that she realized they’d again forgotten a condom.

He began to relax on top of her, still lightly kissing her. She brought her hand to her head and looked at him as he pulled away.

“You sure know how to wear a girl out, Smallville.”

He grinned.

“And you sure know how to make a guy happy, Lane.”

He pulled out of her and rolled off to the side in the floor next to her. He wrapped his arm around her waist and moved her closer to him. She grabbed his arm and held him as he threw the quilt around them.

“Well, I do what I can.” She smiled. “So, uh…is this gonna be a recurring thing with us, Kent? I mean, not that I don’t love sex. Woohoo for sex! But, don’t you think we need to…you know…talk?”

Lois turned her head to look at him. She’d had sex with him countless times in the last few days. But, now, this time, it felt different. This time it felt like…more.

Clark smiled his famous smile as he kissed her temple.

“Yeah, we probably do need to talk about some things. But, as far as this being recurring… I don’t know. I mean, I suppose I could always be up for a booty call every now and then.”

Her mouth fell open as she laughed and he leaned over and kissed her once again.

She pulled away and lightly slapped him.

“Booty calls, huh? Well, I suppose we’ll have to get customized ringtones for that, then. You know, as code.”

He smiled, tickling her and lifting her up, rolling her on top of him.

“Well, I’m pretty sure I know what yours will be.”

She eyed him suspiciously.

“And what’s that, Smallville?”

He slapped her butt and squeezed it.

“Bootylicious. What else?”

She laughed as he rose up and kissed her, she rolled off him, but he grabbed her. She was strong, but not strong enough to push him off her. Not that she really wanted him off of her anyway. She looked into his eyes as he hovered over her, his soft gaze appearing to stare deep into her. It was a cliché, but she really could stay right there forever.

“I love you.”

And before she realized she’d said it, it was too late.
