might have fallen out of a nightmare.
My immediate response to reading this was did they not? because after the vivid descriptions in the earlier parts of this story of the beauty of Doriath, this feels like a nightmare: such horror to happen amongst such beauty.

Oh wonderful, exactly the reaction I wanted! I think the sacks of cities must produce so many horribly surreal moments like this; people lived where the fighting is going on, after all. It would be so odd to have a pitched battle going on in your kitchen...
