Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about "Person of Interest". That said, I did read your story and, as always, enjoyed how much of a person's character you can push in to just a few words and an action or two - usually understated. You haven't lost your touch at all.

Then I can sell you POI! It's a Batman-flavour crime procedural that morphs into full-on warring AIs sci-fi and I love it to an unhealthy degree in a way that I never fell for a TV show before. It's smart and punchy and full of ridiculous guns and car crashes and it makes me laugh like hell. Just follow the link for a mostly non-spoilery 3 minute trailer. And thanks so much. I'm really glad you got something out of the ficlet despite not knowing the canon.

What an excellent ficlet! I love this show, but clearly it needs more Maxine.

(And Zoe, I friggin love Zoe, she is the Actual Best)

Thanks so much. I am 100% with you on both counts. I was sorry Maxine never showed up again; she seemed custom-made to reappear, though I suppose there were enough people looking for John without adding a plucky lady journalist to them. I do daydream about her reappearing in S5 to do a feature on the sharp rise in NYPD kneecapping incidents, though. And Zoe is forever ZOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE<3.

My god, Maxine is ADORABLE. Poor Zoe. Poor, poor Zoe. In some ways I feel like the worst thing about the atmospheric absurdity Reese and co. inject into Zoe's life isn't... the thing itself, but the fact that she must then turn around and find herself expecting utter nonsense from the rest of the world. But no! The rest of the world is very busy, it doesn't have time to date!

“Our mutual friend John?” she says eventually. “He’s hard on phones. He probably dropped it somewhere. What sort of help did you need?”

...

She’s wondering if Zoe might be just a bit hung up on John Anderson too.

“You are a busy woman,” Zoe says. “I’m sure John was sorry, though.”

Poor Maxine! Now she'll have to find an actual actuary. She was such a cute plucky lady detective and I was always a bit sorry she never turned up again, though she does have a more substantial role as a fence on White Collar, which suggests to me her retirement plan on that show didn't quite work out. I like to think of POI as Zoe's personal networking agency; she must get a lot of laughs out of it.
