Clodia, what a vivid description of the desperate escape from Menegroth!

Little details such as the shattered flute, and Melinna's knife. Horrible scenes: The bloated corpses floating in the river - such a disgusting, yet sadly very realistic, image - of course the river would have been full of dead bodies.

I really enjoy your stories and admire your writing; here, it truly feels as if one is right there in the caves, hiding with the refugees, or sneaking through dusty corridors towards the only way out of the trap.

I also must apologize for being a horrible LJ-friend who hardly ever comments (and it's not likely to change soon, I'm afraid). RL - it doesn't always co-operate.

RL spoils the best intentions, don't worry about it! But thank you so much for taking the time to comment here, especially so very kindly, and I'm immensely glad you enjoyed this section! It's had the fewest comments elsewhere, so it's remarkably reassuring to hear you think it works. And you make me very happy by picking up those details, because I was using that sort of detail very deliberately throughout this story and every time someone notices I have a little gleeful moment. :D

You've really brightened my evening, anyway. Thank you so much!

How desperate it was and the smaller details you added, as I'd pointed out earlier, lent to it: the twisted flute, the glacial cold, the feeling of every bone broken in the body when there was impact with the water. Everything presented a picture of how low spirits have fallen and how much did Oropher want - need - to escape the bloodied, silent stone forest of Menegroth.

So glad you picked up the flute there! And I'm saying this a lot, but it is so nice to have reassurance that the scene comes across the way I intended it. :D Thank you!
