The last line struck me because it is a truth that you know won't change, no matter how you try. But what whacked its way into my mind?

This is Glorfindel and his dad. He always seemed a standalone character but here you've given him a father. This is something you've given me when I read --- Elves aren't alone, despite how they seem.

I'm really glad! I wonder if this is partly a matter of LOTR vs. Silm perspective? The Elves of Silm aren't really as mystical and unknowable as those of LOTR, because they aren't seen from a Hobbit's perspective - if you start off from Silm, as I do, then it's natural to take them as people first and Elves (with all that connotes) second. But I don't know if your perspective is the LOTR one, so that might just be idle speculation.

No, the Elves of Silm. aren't but, too, I've been reading The Hobbit lately and I wonder if that might be influencing how I perceive Elves at the moment.
