This has a wonderful atmosphere, with great contrasts and an ever so slightly sinister undertone. I like the elements of quite grim realism too. The body in the canal, the graffiti Madonna, the block of flat as the wooden tower and the strange movement at the window. And Aziraphale is indeed drowning, isn't he?

War seems to have found a way out of her boredom. Berlin will no doubt please her.
Thanks for responding so eloquently to this rather strange request :)

Oh, I'm very glad you liked it! I wasn't sure what to do with this song - it's a bit trickier than Take This Waltz, which was practically made for reworking. The result is a bit grittier, maybe, as you say. It's great if it worked. I wasn't sure it would, or did.

//And Aziraphale is indeed drowning, isn't he?//

*thumbs up* That's the idea! :D

(Fun thing: Wikipedia tells me the Danube Canal was going to be converted into a harbour at some point. I thought that was neat...)

SCINTILLATING

(this is an iou for absurd enthusiastic cherrypicking

I did absurd enthusiastic cherrypicking in my mind but I am presently too sleepy to write it out.)

*BIG SMILE*

(it will have done its job if it encourages you just a little bit to get on with Secret Agent Pepper, although I realise there isn't much connection other than source material)

Aziraphale making a martyr of himself using his hangover as a penance is so sweet!
The atmosphere here is so intense, it´s like taking a bath in colored, bubbling, scented water - all senses seem to be affected.

In Berlin, every night cars are kindled, and every now and then street fights flare up after mass demonstrations, like May Day March (a classic for violent conflicts between callow youths and frustrated cops).
Now, is this your doing? ;-P

You are wonderfully descriptive yourself, that's a delightful compliment! <3 I had a lot of fun with these odd little snippets, I was thinking vague thoughts of dipping back in again only this week... torched cars in Berlin, you say? Now, I think it's pretty clear War's been in London and Manchester and Birmingham this summer, but they must have stopped off in Berlin back in the spring...
