Okay, it's bugging me.

Why is Disney now referring to Tinker Bell as a fairy? She's a pixie, not a fairy. Throughout the movie, she's referred to as pixie. Pixie dust, etc. Never as a fairy. Why is she a fairy now? The two aren't interchangeable. Fairies are elegant, magical, supernatural creatures. Pixies are much baser, less well-dressed, and generally helpful to ( Read more... )

"Pixies are much baser, less well-dressed, and generally helpful to humans by performing household tasks."

LOL...well, Tink ain't supposed to be "princess-y" and refined. She's basically a little jealous shit who tries to get her rival killed off. Why they're trying to make her into a sweet little fairy is beyond me.

And the "born into Fairy Hollow" sweet little girl version Tink? Fail. Looks nothing like her, if they wanted to use that image, they should have just added a character. Don't reinvent what is working.

(was "singing" lyrics to a Pixies song)

Have you written any letters yet to complain? Not sure why they're trying to change her image.

Not yet...I know *why* it's happening, it's all marketing-based. If Tink is more elegant and "princess-y", then they can promote her to the little girls that are rabid over the princess characters. It's more difficult to market her to kids if she's a snotty bitch (which she is). The movie was meant to support the consumer product line, so heaven forbid they not try to glossy her up.

Actually, I care about this too. Disney shouldn't be messing with it;s well-established myths. Tink is too special.

It's notthe first time Disney messed with the myth or fairytale.

With how people bend the myths I too sometimes get mixed up. Yes Tink is supposed to be a pixie not a fairy. Haven't seen the movie yet dreading now.

Right, as others have said--it's marketing. Fairies are popular right now, so Tink's now a fairy and we can make toys and movies to sell the toys and the money will be nice!

I hadn't thought about it but your right. Leave it to disney to change the mythos to suit their current projects.

I think you should send them a letter. Maybe they wil listen.
