Hey darlin. Saw the Beth Ditto pix. They look awesome. I was in Europe this summer and was surprised to see her everywhere. It's a small world. She once gave my psycho-ex gf a haircut in her Olympia kitchen in summer 2000, the same trip in which I happened to see a sticker advertising Cottonmouth Kisses on a newspaper dispenser, doing a doubletake when I realized, hey, I know that guy.

I'm trying to bail from [insert name of degenerating alma mater here]. The department has turned into jerkwads. Surprise. English has a Film Studies position open (my secondary speciality), but I don't know if I care enough to bother. Sure I can own a house here in LR and have beloved friends from teen years living literally down the street and my aging 'rents aren't far away... but it's gettin really old being everyone's introductory assimilated queer couple poster girls. I wanna live somewhere where I blend in without having to blend in if you know what I mean...

Such a shame, too, 'cause there truly were some phenomenal instructors back in the day.

Know what's weird, though? I was recognized in "Swingers" (a restaurant) this afternoon by a guy from Russellville, AR who knew of me from stories told lonnnng after I graduated.

Talk about NOT blending in! Damn. I really am not that subversive/interesting. (I mean, I live in the same neighborhood as Ron Athey these days. I'm a cream puff by comparison!)

Yeh, well, there still are some phenomenal instructors, yours truly included if evals and performance reviews (yes, they do those in academe! agg!) are a valid indicator. However, due to exploitative economic policies, short-sighted admin, and an insane FL department, they're about to lose one more ( ... )
