Ah, the Cavalry Charge something that's fun to read about and fun to watch and fun to write or write about . . . Interesting post I've been meaning to read some of Mr. Cornwells work but just never got around to it.

Indeed it would change a lot of things if say the world was set at around the time of the napoleonic wars . . . That would change a ton of things (I think a bunch of elvish cuirassiers at waterloo charing against the orcish squares would pretty cool ;) )

BTW If you ever want to research Pike and Shot and whatnot I would suggest Bert S. Halls work Warfare in Rennaisance Europe I would also suggest Charles WC Omans Art of in the Sixteenth Century while it was published in 1937 it holds it's own against more modern scholarship and contains several detailed battles including some very interesting Heavy Horse VS Solid Pikemen interactions

I think I'll post some more on cavalry later on (or tomorrow perhaps)

I've always considered it odd how light cavalry is pretty much ignored in fantasy, even though almost all the cavalry in the wars of the USA were or acted as light cavalry.
