OK, now I need help.
Does this mean that we can take the prompt from the setting, for instance Antebellum South, for Gone With The Wind, and develop a SV AU, and it doesn't have to hew closely to the original movie plot?
I don't get it. (Did I get it?)

I think you got it.:-)
Although you could write an AU closely resembling the film's plot, you don't necessarily have to.
