Extra-long Spring Fling - Clex Remix Challenge!

Feb 17, 2013 19:29

Welcome to our extra-long spring challenge for this year. A Clex Remix!

Awesome banner by ctbn60. Thank you!

This challenge is to make the Clex live again, in your own way.

Clexmas Twist 1: This is an open remix, not a reciprocal one. You don't have to offer your works up to do a remix, and you don't have to commit to do a remix if you offer. The two are separate from each other.

Clexmas Twist 2: The works open for remix will be limited to only the ones the offerer submits - their entire body of work is not available, just the submitted ones.

Clexmas Twist 3: This is an inspirational remix, not a literal rewrite one. We don't want the same work - we want something different from you based upon what loved about the other.

Because of the separation of offerings and remixes, we're doing this in two stages.

Schedule

February 17 - March 8: Collect the offerings

March 9 - May 31: Remixing! Remixes can be posted to Clexmas as they're completed

June 1: Collect the links of works for a master post and distribute the banners ^^

1. The Offering:

All Artists/Writers who have completed Clex work in the past can offer up to five fics/art/vids/other of theirs for the remix. You do not have to sign up to do one in return. Note, if a talented person does both fic and art and vids, there can be five offerings of each type - five fic, five art, five vids, etc.

- There are no minimum word counts on offerings. Or dimensions for art, or length for vid, etc. The point on this is for the remixer to be inspired to do something new, and that can happen with anything.

- Please do not offer up any co-created works unless both/all creators agree to this. Also, please don't offer works that are already remixes of things by other people, unless that previous person of the work before also agrees. WIPs are probably not a good idea to offer unless you've abandoned the work and are okay with somebody else taking the idea up.

- You are allowed to offer up to two of your five offerings as non-Smallville/Clex works. (i.e. an old Highlander ficlet you did which you think now could be a really cool Clex idea too). If you do this, please note in the offering post what the original fandom and pairing were. Note that since the original works must be read/watched/viewed before they can be remixed, anything from a different fandom is less likely to be claimed. But you still have the option if you want to put it out there.

- If your work has warnings in it, also put the warnings on the offering post. Don't let anybody thinking of a remix be surprised by what they find (triggers are everywhere).

Offerings will be taken until March 8. Please comment at this post with links to your offerings. Please include AO3 links if you have them. (So that the remixes posted to AO3 can be credited appropriately "inspired by".) On March 9, we'll do a compilation post of all offerings and will open them for claiming by the participants.

If you are being remixed, please remember that it's not about you. Just as fans come up with all kinds of ideas based on canon, so the remixer can come up with all kinds of ideas based on your work, inspired by your work. But it's not a reflection of you, it's a reflection of the remixer. There are no guarantees. You may hate what they make. You may love it. It's okay either way, because new sand has been used for a different creation - yours is still the wonderful way it was.

Please be aware that because we will probably have many more offerings than currently active writers/artists that will be participating. This means there will probably be offerings unused. We do appreciate all offerings and are grateful for your contribution to the Clex fandom. :)

Submit all offerings at this post

2. The Remixes:

This version of the remix challenge is more inspirational than direct rewrite. When people remix a work, it is not a direct copy, but a retelling of a story, the way there are several versions of "Beauty and the Beast" or "Dracula". Take the basic plot elements, and reweave the story into something fresh and new. Pick out the things that you liked about the story and put them into a different world. You can do this literally, with an AU setting, or by changing aspects around. Don't use the same words (that's plagiarism, even in a remix), and try not to go over every point of the story directly. Take the thought, and run with it anew. For an art piece, you could take the setting, and then find new poses and background for it. Use a drabble as the summary for your piece and expand on the world. Reach into the heart of a vid and then tell what they were thinking and doing in a story. Pull out a single piece of a fanfic world and use that as the basis for your own. Things like that. We're working with ideas, and playing with the worlds, with the original creator's permission (if not the original tv series, but hey... not for profit, and we're just playing - it's all good! ^^).

All creative folks who want to play in another sandbox for awhile can sign up to do a remix, even if you haven't put in an offering for one in step one.

- All remixes must be Clex or end in Clex (can be pre-slash too, but there must be no endings of pairings of Clark or Lex with somebody else).

- Remixes can cross mediums. You can remix a manip to a fic, or a fic to a vid, or a fic to a fic, or whatever inspires you to the work.

- Don't start a remix until the offering period is over and the master offer list has been posted! (Offerers might be editing their offerings up until that point.)

- Claiming an offering will be done by screened comments. Due to this method, offerings will obviously be able to be remixed more than once. We're screening them because it's come to our attention more than once that people are scared off claiming anything because they're worried about real life commitments. Believe us, we understand about real life stuff! But we also want to give encouragement and motivation, especially with as long a challenge as this will be, so the screened comments are for us to track and send notes. Think of it as a personal challenge for yourself, with a cheerleader on the side. ^^ We encourage you to claim a prompt with a brief note as to what you plan to do with it: "A 3000 word rewrite from Lex's pov and a twist along the way."

- Remixers can do more than one work, however, you can only initially claim one. Come back for a second after you've finished the first.

- Completed remixes can be posted at Clexmas at any time during the challenge. You can post either the full story itself or links to where they're located on your journal/archive. Give credit to the work you've remixed!

- After this challenge is over, do NOT do any further remixes of any of the works. They have been offered for this challenge and this challenge only - it is not a blanket invitation for all time. If you really really have an idea about something after this challenge, contact the creator and ask them directly, but don't assume.

- Have fun. :)

Please let us know if you have any questions!
