book recommendation

I bought a new book in London a couple of days ago, ´Born on a blue day´, and it's beautiful.
It's from Daniel Tammet, who has savant syndrome, an extremely rare form of Asperger's.
In the book, he talks about his early childhood, schooldays, his love for numbers, shapes, words and colors, about falling in love,  his relationship with his partner ( Read more... )

Yeah, Daniel sounds a lot like ´my´ Justin. There is a part where he collects ladybirds and puts them into a tub, hundreds of them, and he brought them to school for the teacher to look at, and the teacher took one look at the tub and then asked Daniel to take something to the teacher in the next class. When Daniel returned the tub was gone, because the teacher had told one of the other children to take it outside and release all the ladybirds. When Daniel realised what happened he burst out into tears and ran from the class and all the way home and afterwards refused to talk to the teacher ever again and even became agitated when he called his name. -- I don't know why but this part made me cry. Of course I can understand the teacher, but you can just feel Daniel's pain and anger and despair... and not only in this situation but also through the entire book, especially the parts about his childhood when he is so often misunderstood. I hope you'll give it a chance, I'm sure you'll love it :)

I saw a review of this book in a magazine a few weeks ago and made a mental note to get it from the library, but of course, like most of my mental notes, it buried itself in the depths of my head never to return to consciousness!

It sounds wonderful and very, very interesting. And he does seem amazingly similar to 'your' Justin in a lot of ways!

Thanks so much for reminding me....I might have to go out and buy it tomorrow now. :)

PS. The last chapter of KMA was fantastic as usual. Now that I've read it 64,000 times I can usually get through it without too many tears. ;)

Aaaaah! Schwesterherz! Wo kommst du denn her?! OMG!
