Being yourself is important:)

It's hard being a conservative or even a moderate. I get hell from people all the time because I'm not a liberal, but a moderate. I even edited my facebook to explain that just because I'm democrat doesn't mean I'm liberal. Your mom sounds like she's not open minded.

Nothing is worth sacrificing your sense of self or self-identity because if you don’t have that then you don’t have anything. Your mother clearly doesn’t respect your own personal values. I hope you are able to leave that negative environment soon so you don’t have to censor yourself around those who clearly don’t deserve you. You deserve so much better that what you are being faced with ( ... )

There are gay conservatives. They're called Log Cabin Conservatives. They have a name. Though conservatives usually aren't real happy about gays, or giving them any rights whatsoever, they are what they are.

Be who you are. The best part is meeting people who aren't like you, but share some common interests. That's the GREATEST thing evar!!! Just be who you are and fuck your mom. She'll get over it or she loses a daughter. Easy as that. She raised you to be your own woman. To believe in yourself and represent yourself to the best of your abilities (at least she should bave), she has nothing to be angry at. You're doing exactly what she wanted you to do.

I'm having a hard time getting those two concepts to gel in my mind. I mean I guess it's possible - if it's possible for conservatives to be for gay rights, as a few of my BFF's are, it's possible for a liberal to be anti-gay, but yeah.

It took me a long time to accept the fact that it was okay to be a moderate Democrat. I've always been one, but I used to hide it. But then I saw one of my political heroes (a moderate Democrat) really start to make a bigger name for himself and advance the goals of the moderates (he started THIS group in the Senate; his name is the first listed), and I thought "Hey. This isn't so bad. I can be a moderate and a Democrat; I'm not the only one"
