Hey! Hey! You know what's not okay? THIS.

(There's a second locked entry--I don't know why it's locked--that you can see if you're a member of ONTD, wherein basically this girl is shown to have said on Facebook, "jokingly" or not, that if they accused the guy of rape, they'd get to ride in the police car with him omg. 1) You morons, it doesn't ( Read more... )

fandom, wtf, do not want, why we can't have nice things, i am never making it up

and also I'm guessing the ONTD entry is locked because the Facebook screencaps show the full names of the girls involved?

Especially if they're minors, which they look to be. ONTD is so huge though I'm not sure it makes a difference. The surnames at least probably should have been redacted altogether.

Also also, I've lived in NYC and LA most of my life and have seen a lot of celebrities and even kvelled over many of them (I practically fell to my knees when I saw Martin Scorsese walking down my block), but I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't get the logic that says it's okay to stalk people you like. I mean, it's not okay to stalk non-famous people you like. If you lurked in the bushes outside the house of that nice guy at work, you'd get tossed in jail. So what kind of leap of insanity leads people to behave this way with celebs?

I think some people have a hard time distinguishing between public image and private life and tend to treat celebrities as if they themselves are public property. Granted, for the young and impressionable the TMZ world we now live in really violates the distinction between public and private, but that's not an excuse.

Yeah, and reality TV hasn't helped--particularly reality TV that now involves people who were already famous. It's this 24/7 sense of access where--it's not a fishbowl anymore, it's a petting zoo.

Yeah, this is disturbing. I've surrounded myself with sane fangirls for so long I forget that these morons are out there. (Seriously, reading that made my brain bleed.) I'm really creeped out by how entitled these kinds of fans can be.

DON'T ENCOURAGE ME. =

Also this seems like a very odd discussion to be having in a post about overzealous crazy fans.
