Late again today, because there was MOAR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING. Which was fun, so I had that going for me.

Important: I got an email the other day from someone who said that reading The Gift of Fear hours before she attended a seminar helped her realize that the seminar was Bad News; she was able to run away, literally, out of the building, before ( Read more... )

I'm afraid The Gift Of Fear will make me super-paranoid.

You know, it actually made me feel more confident? I started trusting myself to "feel" when something was wrong and not worry (so much) if I didn't.

(Happy belated birthday! I kept meaning to tell you!)

I have an off sense of ...stuff, though, and I'm highly suggestible. I don't know, maybe it would have the opposite effect and it would help me.

(Thanks :D)

Great book. I just wish I'd have read it before I started going out with a psycho asshat in my early 20's. It would have saved me a lot of grief.

I think the poster meant Dec 8th ---she called her mom Dec 8th, late, to let her know she's okay. She called again today to say she wants her mom to come get her.
Thanks so very very much for posting though ---her mom is way happy that so many people have helped.

Hey, at least he seems to be handling the attention with a little less terror than some of the others (though he did look like he wanted to dry heave on the Tyra show when he had to relate the story about signing the lady's thong).

He signed a thong?

Oh man, the poor guy. :( *cuddles him*

I'm doing my senior paper for AP English on Garcia-Marquez's work! Love that guy.

Oh, yes, the Avatar: TLAB wank is glorious. But honestly. JACKSON RATHBORNE DNE SOKKA. I don't understand HOW that connection could ever be drawn. Please be a prank.

I haven't read Beedle the Bard yet. I'm waiting to get it for Christmas. Somehow, spoilers have not even thought about crossing my path!

& a Chipmunks what now?

I'm going to assume that the casting is a cruel prank because that just makes no sense (ok, the unknowns sort of do, but everyone else...no).

It's the Jesse McCartney as Zuko bit that gets me. It's just so wrong.

I was kind of horrified by the Jackson-as-Sokka idea, too...until I hit Jesse McCartney as Zuko. Now my brain just keeps screaming "WHAT? WHAT?"

I'm dreading my best friend hearing about it, because then its only a matter of time before she calls me asking for help hiding the casting director's body.

A friend of mine mailed me the Gift of Fear (unless it was another similar awareness/self-defence book) a few years ago, but I never really took him seriously enough to read it. I should probably correct that.

It's really good. The author really clues you in to signs you shouldn't ignore and how to distinguish helpful fear from unhelpful. It actually helps you live with less fear, ironically enough.

gavin debecker is great. he's one of the only men on the planet i feel Gets It regarding the stuff women have to think about. he doesn't encourage living in fear, and his message is certainly valid for men too (and he gives examples of same), but he's worth taking seriously, yes.

...or did you mean the friend? *grin*

You beat me to it. DeBecker is a minor deity. I have three of his books, which may be the entire collection. He doesn't just say "you have to be careful," he gives concrete advice on what is and isn't a real warning sign.
