Hey, quick dumb question: does anyone have or know how to get the original French text of Phantom of the Opera ? (I mean, quickly, online, and/or free.) There's a line I'd like the original version of--it's translated in one of my editions as "A sort of bluey light surrounded us," and I would really, really like to know what the original wording ( Read more... )

Which, canonically, should have become a more 'normal'-sounding "blueish", but bluey, why not. (-âtre is -ish, rather typically so).

Yes! That's it exactly. I looked at my better translation, and it does use "blueish." I was just curious as to what the hell word would have resulted in any translator coming up with "bluey."

(I should say, not my personal translation, but a newer translation that I know to be more accurate and unabridged.)

The original line:
"Une lueur bleuâtre nous entourait."

Which I translate as:
"A bluish light surrounded us"
