Okay, I'm going to break out a mini-spam here--I might do another linkspam later, but I'm trying to really get some work done today, and--this stuff can't wait.

JK Rowling talks in-depth about the Veil.

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart on THE BEST MAGAZINE COVER EVER. I try to stay apolitical on this journal, so... just take it as a link about ( Read more... )

wtf, jk rowling, harry potter, sherlock holmes, tv, movies, books

he probably puts that costume on to go to the corner store sometimes

Well, I sure would.

Also? Stewart/Colbert '08, please. So we can stop pretending politics isn't just entertainment.

I think Silver is the horse? Someone's got a horse named Silver.

The Lone Ranger's horse is Silver (Hi Ho Silver AWWWWWWWWWWWAY!!!!!!)

I.... I'm stumped what Tonto's horse is named. I *should* know...

(as an aside, am I the only one troubled by the thought of Tonto being played by anyone that's not Native American? Jay Silverheels broke a freaking glass ceiling playing that role, even if it WAS still very stereotyped...)

It did annoy me a bit that it was used so abruptly and permanently in the book for pretty much a single scene and purpose. So many other things in the series were able to be overcome, worked around, defeated, reversed, or otherwise defanged that I kept expecting the Veil would turn out to be another of these. And then it was just never ever mentioned again.

It was if Rowling got to that point in the book, said "crap, I need to get Sirius out of the way", and quickly penned the equivalent of "and then a monster appeared and ate him for no reason".
