Early 'spam, then I'm calling it a day

So I finally caught up and watched the two episodes of True Blood and I kind of loved it. Like, not even ironically--genuinely loved it although there was kind of some snarky love in there as well. Put on some pants, Anna Paquin. Part of me wants to write up an in-depth thing about it, and part of me, mostly the part centered around my sinuses, ( Read more... )

wtf, publishing, o snap, true blood, writing, tv, nick cave, fandom, black ribbon, bond, books, music, watchmen, cute, theater, vampires

Dear Diablo Cody,

My heart is now yours, with a three-point option on my vagina.

Key point: "MFA programs are exploding with people who have been drilled to create prose bonsai." YES. I HAVE BEEN THERE. Workshops, God bless them, are (or were, five years ago) to the point where I shopped the first two chapters of Black Ribbon and people actually said, "Wow, this has a plot, but it's actually pretty good."

You know, when I read things like that, it seriously makes me think that you dodged a bullet by not finishing that degree. I know you feel weird about that, but the more I hear about MFAs, the more I think that the best way to become a writer is to go on and write.

Honestly, I feel worse about wasting the money than I do not finishing the degree. Or worse that I have to say to people, "No, I didn't finish." Actually, all I had left were literature classes (which made up the majority of the degree reqs), so there wasn't anymore damage to do ( ... )

Well, it's good that they didn't actually try to force you to conform to some teacup fiction ideal, but your description makes it sound like you helped the program more than it helped you (if it helped at all?). I know these things always go both ways, but what you've said it this thread and previously has never made it sound like an even exchange. (I do know what you mean about not finishing/the money thing, though. I got really lucky last month and they agreed to give me my masters without thesis, since I never did the thesis. Only 6 years late! And now I have loans!)

Ah, but at least maybe she's increased the amount of less-boring writing in the world. I consider that to be a worthy achievement in and of itself. :D

Or maybe I'm just in a happy, optimistic kinda mood. X3

BTW, the comments on that io9 article have become easily twice or thrice as entertaining as the actual article. The real hilarity starts when they start coming up with names, fake excerpts and even fake reviews for "literary science fiction", which is not only hilariously spot-on but also just all around good solid funny. I mean, "Oolong Baby, a Novel"!? Heeeee. XD ( ... )

So the vampire's name is Bill? Somehow in watching both episodes I kept forgetting it. I'll still just call him Darcypire because sometimes he looks a bit like a Mr. Darcy.

Heeeeeeeee, he did remind me of Matthew Macfadyen. Like, constantly. "Bill" was just burned into my memory after Sookie was like, "Your name is BILL? BILL THE VAMPIRE? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA."

I think that was the exact moment when I fell in love with this show. (Though I still haven't had a chance to sit down and watch the second ep yet)

That was one of my favorite moments. I literally started giggling wildly at the TV and decided I loved this show.

Hoffman, Moore Ready To Roll In Proposed ‘Big Lebowski’ Sequel.

OMG IT'S INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY IN LIKE AN HOUR AND A HALF AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE AN EYEPATCH YET?!
