I can't stop listening to the V for Vendetta soundtrack at this point, which makes this the second Dario Marianelli score in a row that I've gotten hooked on. I'm even to the point in my predictably cyclical obsessions where I would like to listen to something else, maybe some nice Garbage or at least something with guitars and maybe even some ( Read more... )

I remember every single negative comment or review I get on anything, no matter how many positive comments I get. Your illustrated example gets it exactly. I know what you mean to such an extent that I may very well print this and read it whenever I feel the same way.

"The strength of criticism lies only in the weakness of the thing criticised." --Longfellow

Thus, since your work is by no means weak -- and you have far more rave reviews than negative to prove this -- the criticisms you receive make no large dent in the enjoyment you provide your readers.

Regardless of whether or not these criticisms are correct, you can only take it for what you know it to be: an opinion. Pull from it what you can use to strengthen your work against others like it, and continue to produce in the face of these negativities.

If nothing else, you have a responsibility to your readers to make us giggle so damn hard that we wet ourselves, and then have to explain said incident to our families, who never quite look at us the same way again. That is until they read "Phantom of the Opera in 15 Minutes" and continue the ritual of bladder-busting laughter!!

P.S. - I *heart* you!

Point 1: You don't suck
Point 2: You still don't suck
Point 3: I really didn't have a point 3, but I caught up in the whole point thingy

ps: congrats for being a winner in the BPAL forum raffle (now go buy some underpants or something)

I got a nice review for my wee Batfic the other day and then thought, "Why are you so happy? It's just fanfic, for God's sake," and then I had to go eat about three pounds of chocolate to stabilize myself. Even though fanfic is also funny and good and can teach things and SUCK ME, LEE GOLDBERG.

So I understand, is what I'm saying. If nobody provides negative reviews for me, I can provide them myself. I don't know if that's a necessary component for being a writer (or "writer" in my case) but it's pretty universal among scribblers, I find.

OH! Also I haven't checked to see if you found out, but I saw V again tonight and Delia Surridge's name before was Diana Stanton. I squeaked when I saw that part and sat there mumbling "StantonStantonStanon" until I was sure I'd remember it for you.

Stupid themoviespoiler.com guy! See if I ever listen to you again except I totally will because I can't remember 2+ hours of movie by myself!

But Surridge is the assumed name, then?

Thank you for expressing what I've never been able to figure out. I stopped writing a long time ago because of the few negative comments I received, even though I knew they shouldn't bother me that much. It is good to know other writers feel the same way.

(By the way, congrats on the forum raffle. I won something, too. :) Ain't life grand?)

I was telling someone a couple of comments up--I hadn't even heard about the raffle results yet! (And I only bought two tickets, is the best part.) What'd you win?

I won a 5ml of Parlement of Foules, yippee! (And I really don't want to admit how many tickets I bought...at least it all went to support the forum, right?)
