Regarding Hannibal S3

Jul 27, 2014 13:33

I've been hearing about some misinformation flying around, and since I've spent the past couple of days herding Hannibal-related SDCC links into Storify posts, I thought I'd put together what they've told us about season three--which is a lot more than people may realize. In order to take all this in, though, you will have to throw out everything ( Read more... )

* ambiguously European Frasier Crane -- wow, I'd honestly never thought about it like that because, dang was he super menacing all the way through the show, but now I want this as a fic from Alana's POV.
*CHILTON ME TOO, YES PLEASE

I always considered Bedelia to be sort of a teacher to Hannibal (teacher for what, who knows? I just know she's always been so condescending in a way, even while maintaining respect and rapport with Hannibal, like a teacher or mentor would be), especially since the original casting choice for Bedelia was Angela Lansbury. So I think she's ALWAYS been dark, although in terms of killing either she's killed more before and we don't know it or she's been doing as Hannibal does and manipulating her patients into killing.

We know she's a good manipulator.

Or maybe she was dark, but neither killer nor manipulator, but enjoyed seeing them do their work?

Either way after a rewatch of the series I find myself not wondering why Bedelia "went bad" because it was clear she was already long bad long ago, but I am wondering why she still went with Hannibal even when she's already free from the FBI and has immunity. I feel like getting back with Hannibal wasn't clean or orderly, and she seems to value that.

Alana. I am way more defensive of her than some have been
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one defending her and it's hard. I love characters that are straight out good people, like her.

I need the writers to write her better! She's the best when she's working as a profiler or teaching, come on Hannibal writers!

The Talented Mr. Ripley is one of my favourite movies. Liked the book, *loved* the movie. But all those parallels make me worry for one of my favourite characters on the show, considering the name of one of Tom's victims and *who* played him - and the fact that they bring in Dolarhyde earlier than expected ( ... )

I want Chilton to be all Phantom of the Baltimore Hospital for the Criminally Insane. As for Alana, I'm in the camp of her not being paraplegic; her pelvis definitely did not survive that fall intact but, since she appeared to be breathing, I don't think a cervical break -- though that's still up to the writers because television and artistic licensing. I didn't hear about her possibly being blind though -- where are people getting that from ( ... )

YES FOR LEE PACE AS DOLARHYDE. He would be so terrifyingly amazing.

I think people are theorizing she may be blind and that she'd take on the Reba role.

Because CLEARLY Alana has not had her fill of unsuitable men.

I was thinking about taking a break from Hannibal next season but I really, really can't resist any kind of Talented Mr. Ripley homage. even if it's just bits and bobs. I love the book.

(I'll probably watch it all eventually but watching it as it's all over fandom is really not working for me.)

I SWEAR I AM TRYING TO GET THE RECAPS STARTED BACK UP AGAIN but honestly I think part of it was that I just could not recap as it was all over fandom, either. I hope I can do it as we go next year, but this year the reactions were just way too intense and the story was too mysterious to keep wading through as it was going--too many feelings and not enough answers for me to want to get in the middle of that.

With the way Season 3's plot seems to be going, I'm suggesting that any recaps of an episode ought to be done at least two weeks after it had aired, in case something comes up "later" and is significant; that or start posting the recaps after the season had ended (with Cleo you doing the rough notes all the way through the airing) so as not to miss anything, frankly I'm praying that you'd be in a good shape to write and we'd be in a good shape to read by then, i'm tempting fate here and saying that the season finale cannot possibly be as soul-draining as this season's, because HANNIBAL WOULD FINALLY BE CAUGHT BY THEN AND HE HAS *THAT KIND OF FOOD* TO LOOK FORWARD TO. Muahahahaha My little brother Arthur (not his real name, but he likes to sign his sketches with that instead of his legal name) came home for the summer after finishing grade eleven in Ottawa, and we binge-watched Season II together as a kind of sibling-bonding (with me having watched the original airing though *cough* various means *cough* and him seeing all this for the ( ... )

I'm going to wait until the season it's over to binge-watch it. No way I'm going to watch it live again, that shit killed me.

Interacting with the fans is nice but mostly too intense and stressful.
