SDCC, where a lot of things happened and I wasn't there

Jul 21, 2013 20:40

(I'm pretty good with watching it all come in over the wire from my air-conditioned bedroom, though.)

This is by no means exhaustive, because if I wasn't around on Twitter at the time or wasn't interested, it would have slipped past me. At this point, I would just say go browse Social Nerd Art's archive or SDCC tag, or The Mary Sue's tag, if there ( Read more... )

my heart grew three sizes, the avengers, sdcc, the x-files, doctor who, spider-man, gravity, x-men, true blood, comic-con, batman, superman, the hunger games, thor, well that happened

Here's a funny video for any HIMYM fans who think his kids would be fed up by now.

If anyone wants my recollections for panels other than Hannibal, I can try and dredge up memories. Notable ones I was at were "Music for Superhero Films", the Dreamworks panel, the panel/pilot for "The Blacklist" starring James Spader, Geek and Sundry, HIMYM, Supernatural, Breaking Bad, Doctor Who, and Community.

JUST TRYING TO HELP OUT MY FELLOW NERDS.

How was the Dreamworks panel? Anything for Me and My Shadow?

God, so torn on Catching Fire. On the one hand, the first book was the only one that I found tolerable and I just hated them progressively more from there. But on the other, my god the first movie was jawdropping.

I think I marathoned all three books in one long night, so they're all kind of a blur to me? I don't really have a sense of one being different from another so much as "omg Mockingjay nooooooo." Other than a little overuse of the shakycam in scenes that didn't actually need it (walking down the hall omg!), I loved the first movie, yeah.

And I've heard that the shakeycam has been massively toned down in this one, so fingers crossed. It does still look like they're being ridiculously faithful to the detail of the books which makes me so gleeful, after Harry Potter's irritating habit of needlessly dropping background detail.

I binged them pretty quick, too (although not that quick). I mentally divide them into Everything Is Awful, Everything Is Awful and Katniss Doesn't Understand Subtlety Or Politics, and Hey You Got Your War Novel In My Dystopia (And It's a Poorly-Written War Novel).

Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser.

I saw a group photo of the cast on IMDB (including bald Karen Gillan) and can't help but notice that Lee is taller than Dave Bautista... and also, Lee looks a little more buffed out, wider across the shoulders.

I'm not as familiar with Guardians as I could be, but... the first comics I ever bought personally (I was eleven) was a four issue series called Rocket Raccoon: a funny animal meets science fiction thing set against the backdrop of a war between rival toy companies (no, really). They seem to have gone a little darker with him for Guardians, though.

Every time that one Hobbit gifset featuring Lee Pace drifts across my tumblr dash, I actually have to stop and stare at it for at least 5 iterations.

Thranduil, Elvenking, father of Legolas... Maker of Pies...

I just wonder about the guy they picked to be Groot for the Guardians film. In the comics, Groot is this giant alien... tree. And all he ever says is "I AM GROOT!" (It translates to mean different things, but still.)
