The Cutting Room by Louise Welsh. I don't really do crime, but I felt like I needed something to keep me awake and it's shelved often enough in Fiction that I got it out of the library anyway. Set in Glasgow, features a gay antiques dealer who's a bit of a loner and finds a nasty photograph in a house. There's a reveal at the end but it doesn't ( Read more... )

I really like Louise Welsh - her books are in an interesting place halfway between crime and lit and pretty interesting either way you approach them.

Very interested to read Gullstruck Island, I enjoyed her earlier books a lot!

Yeah, that not quite definable quality is definitely one of the things I liked about The Cutting Room. I'm planning to read more of Welsh - The Bullet Trick looks interesting.

I really liked Hardinge's other books too.
