More Like the Crappening, amirite?

Reading this review of The Conjuring at Deadspin -- in which Will Leitch confessed the movie scared him so much that he practically wet himself -- had me anticipating a good old-fashioned fright-fest, one that belies the film's distinctly non-scary trailer. I should have remembered that the sportswriter/nascent film critic is kind of a pussy (Buzz ( Read more... )

I'm almost surprised that they wouldn't go for the headline-friendlier "Lifetime" ban than an arbitrary number of games that would amount to the same thing. (Or is it also like a Pete Rose no-Hall-of-Fame thing with Lifetime?)

Sadly I don't think a lifetime ban was actually ever going to happen. Bud Selig knows it would have been vigorously contested by the MLBPA, especially considering A-Rod's never even failed a drug test. It was a bluff to provoke A-Rod into cutting a deal, a la Ryan Braun. The only thing I care about is if A-Rod's suspended for 2014 then his $25 mill salary comes off the books, meaning the Yankees probably get below the $189 million payroll threshold, which means the organization gets out from under the luxury tax penalty, which means they become big spenders once again in the free agent market. I believe you're from the Boston area so feel free to reply "FACK YOU! FUCK JETAH! FUCK WELKAH! NOMAH FOREVAH! CLAM CHOWDAH!"

I've lived here for 17 years but I'm really reluctant to say I'm 'from' Boston. I'm also barely more than a casual baseball fan. I do enjoy a good chowder, though.

He's appealing, right? Does that mean he still has to get paid? (PRICK.)

yes he's appealing, and yes he gets paid, which is precisely why he's appealing. he makes $154,000 per game.

the lawyer in me (note: i'm not a lawyer) says whatever -- procedurally speaking a-rod is within his right to appeal the suspension as outlined by the collective bargaining agreement, as well as collect his salary as outlined by the ridiculous contract that the yankees organization drew up. in reality i don't know why the schmuck doesn't just take the hundreds of millions he's already earned, retire from the game that doesn't want him anymore and move to the south of france.
