You know nerds knit when there's a mark-up language for knitting: KnitML

In some sad news, Terry Pratchett has a rare early Alzheimer's condition. Terry's open letter about it.

w00t!

I wonder what the game designer equivalent would be...

And you should all check out this blog: Seg On Media | segonmedia ;)

I noticed that mark up language for knitting, and sent a link to my mom, an avid knitter. She made the remark that trying to get knitters onto a common language is a bit like herding cats. They have a tendancy to make up their own symbols as they go.

I also came across that xkcd comic while doing my Christmas shopping. I spent a good 20 minutes trying to figure it out. I think I've got some insight the problem, but no solution.

Yes, this is certainly something I've been thinking about how to deal with. The truth is that there are only so many things that you can do with yarn and two needles. The phrases that knitters make up are usually decomposable into smaller, identifiable components. So KnitML would ultimately be expanded to allow new compound instructions to be defined in terms of more atomic ones that have already been defined.

This is Jonathan, the guy who got the KnitML thing started. Reading my previous post, I guess I didn't really make that very clear.
